Thanks Francois. I think. It's called a sandwich as in "ian sandwich" or francois sandwich. etc... pretty common reference up here in igloo land.

Actually the one kid I know who did it said it was good, but not as great as he thought it would be. ( I wasnt involved so I can't vouch either way) However, if I'm going to screw someone, I'd better have their full attention.

sandwich is a specific position - 2 guys, one girl, one in the pink, one in the sink. It's like a turbo shocker.

What this has to do with triathlon, I have no idea.

Slowly, but surely, the Slowtwitch forum is approaching the entertainment value of famous web sites such as urbandictionary.com or even (with a little help in the wine thread) moderndrunkardmagazine.com ...

Awesome!

That drives me crazy--not the thought of you and your roommate together--the grammar. It should be "my roommate and me". It sounds wrong, but it is right. Remove the words "my roommate and" and say it. You will see immediately that the "I" is wrong. That is a handy way to do it that will lead to the right result about 99% of the time. It will bring your standardized testing scores up 20 points.

True, in a sense, but this usage has 2 things going for it...1 - most people think that it is correct so in time it probably will come to receive official acknowledgement; 2 - as a piece of communication it is effective, ie you know what the person means.

But don't get me started on the benighted apostrophe....

1. Me too. 2. That may be a bit extreme.

But I still start Internet sentences with "And" and "But". In this thread, maybe also "butt".

I may have to dump my girlfriend because she is the worst offender of this "my friend and I/my friend and me" thing. Has them reversed about 100% of the time. GRRRRIND, GRRRRRIND, GRRRRRIND.

But there are probably some things about me that bother her.......naw. Probably not. I can't imagine what they could be. Hmmmmmm. I'll keep thinking and keep you posted.

Monk,

I used to think this was wrong until I started seeing literature published by Ph.D's containing sentences which begin with "And" and "But". Enlighten me.

Actually, I think for legal and other technical documents, the semantics of any text is more important than the grammar. Now, grammar is a most useful and loyal servant of semantics, and things can get hellishly confusing when the grammar is sloppy, but for all that I do believe that it is possible for a text to be ungrammatical yet semanticly coherent.

Not to get too technical on it, of course.

And if I could, I would. But I can't.

And I am not sure why it is wrong. But I'm sure it is.

The "me" and "I" issue is NOTHING compared to the "their, they're, there" issue.

'and' 'but' 'or' are all conjunctions - they are designed to join two sentences (more accurately, clauses) together. If all you have is one sentence or clause, with one subject and one verb, then you don't need a conjunction, and especially not at the start of the sentence. But language is fluid, so now it is not seen as such a crime to begin a sentence the way this one did. Inelegant, perhaps, but not really incorrect.
