Go with bib shorts and a jersey, or better yet a skinsuit, either 1 piece tri/du suit or a TT skinsuit. My choice is for the fine italian threads of MS Tina, our race kits are from him and they're the most comfy durable and slick looking kit I've raced in. They also look flattering on just about everyone.

Most 2 piece tri suits leave a little bit of the lower back exposed, which I don't like either. I have been very happy with the SUGOi one pice tri suits.

Be aware that the USCF requires tops to have at least short sleeves, even in TTs. Most tri/du jerseys are sleeveless (even tri suits). I think you'd be better off with two purpose-built suits.

It's also worth it to mention that USCF rules forbid you from riding with large logos or team names on your clothing unless you're sponsored by/a member of said team. So don't go buying a CSC skinsuit for your next TT unless you plan on making it on to the team. . .
