Zipp Wheels
Hi, I normally ride with Zipp 404 in front and Zipp 808 in the back, To make the change is better to get 808 to both in front and back, or get 808 in front and disc 900 in the back, my next race is IM Florida 70.3.

Waiting for coments.

Well, an 808 with a disc in the rear is going to be faster in terms of aerodynamics. However, if the conditions are ridiculously windy, a deeper wheel can sometimes be harder to handle, and saving 20g of drag isn't worth getting blown all over the road.

why not? if its faster than its faster, no matter how much you are getting blown around.

Like all these discussions it just comes down to preference and ability about which wheels to have if its windy or not. A rear disc should not bother you unless there are 50mph sustained cross winds and/or you weight less than 115lbs. The disc is always faster no matter the wind condition. So for investing in a disc is definitely going to give you that advantage.

The 404 vs 808 front debate is really just preference and comfort of handling. If a rider is nervous and not comfortable riding in their aerobars with an 808 then its not going to give them any speed advantage as they will be backing off here and there to compensate. There's nothing wrong with a 404 and a disc if you can floor it the whole way comfortably vs being timid because you have a deeper front wheel. Its just all about training to get comfortable on an 808 in windy conditions at that point. If you ride an 808 around on a windy day in training chances are you will quickly get used to it and be fine racing on it vs only riding it on race day without experiencing any good cross winds to see what it feels like.

Its faster if you can ride a straight line. If you ride a crooked line, you end up biking farther than you need to, wasting some of that advantage. If you end up riding tense in the upper body because you struggle controlling your bike, you spend a lot of extra energy. If you have to stop pedalling or sit up to better control your bike, you lose a huge chunk of the aero advantage.

Aero only works if you can actually ride it.
