Zipp 840 age or era
I own the attached Zipp 840 disk. Can anyone tell me how old it is? If you look very close, you can see a honeycomb design in the carbon fiber matting. I want to find a matching age/era front Zipp 404 to match. I mean I would not want to put this on the back of the bike and be 15 years old and purchase a front Zipp 404 that was 3 years old. Any advise would be appreciated.

From whenever the 650 c wheel era was...about '99 or 2000? I bought a Typhoon in '00 & there was a QR Picante offered at the same time (when Ti & 650's were the new thing). I think Zipp had the 840 as their 650 disc. I'd say 14 or 15 years old for that thing. I don't see a problem with it as long as there are no cracks in it. I'm still racing on the Corima 4-spoke I bought with that Typhoon back in '00...solid as a rock & it isn't any slower than anything out there now.

I still race a Campy Khamsin Disc that I am guessing was made in the late 80's or early 90's. No worries about the age as long as you inspect it for wear.

That particular decal tells me that was made in 1997-1998 model year. The wheels of that era were sold as rims or kits with rim/spokes/hubs and then built by shops, local wheel builders, etc. so you are likely to find wide variations in the market as rims that match will have different hubs/spokes/spoke counts. Good luck!
