YOU ARE SOUZA's RAAM SPONSOR!!
It is time to do a gut check, seeing how many of you really enjoy the Souza come back and stories that come along! Although Kenny is currently doing vast amounts of training, TEAM SOUZA has to start thinking about a budget to make this happen.

Cost is $32,000. With all of the loyal Slowtwitchers, I think we can do half of this through YOU! SLOWTWITCH.COM is Kenny's favorite site, along with the launching pad for this effort.

Noreen, my fiance, from Active.com has set up a page to make this happen. This is excatly like sigining up for a race.

Let the race to RAAM begin by clicking on the link below!!

Thanks for reading and thanks for the support.

Hey paul,

Could you point those of us that don't know already to his story. I guess that I am out of the loop on this one!

Can we at least get a personal testimonial from Kenny (this is his favorite site) about why we should give him money. From my experience you guys are usually pretty entertaining, so I need a funny post to loosen the purse strings.

How much of the $32,000 is for beer, red bull or slim jims? I am kind of on the fence about giving money, but if I know that you will be fueling yourselves like real men and not eating a bunch of crap like yogurt and tofu I think I could cough up a few bucks.

Here is an Encyclepedia of some of the SOUZA stuff. For those that do not know him, he was the sport of DUATHLON back in the day. He was a rock star. He was a falling star, and now getting big as the sun, once again. If you are short on time, read the last link first!

Good to see your true intentions finally coming to the surface. You have offically achieved used car salesman status. Should have gone for a few more ******** stories before going in for the kill.

Well, I've only been in the sport a couple years and don't know Souza's accomplishments. From the article in the SDUT, I'm not getting what the compelling story is that's supposed to illicit donations. He was fast. He was fat. Now he's fast again. Please donate. I mean, seriously, is that it?

Help me out here...

"You have offically achieved used car salesman status."

paul is taking it upon himself to raise money for kenny's RAAM venture. i've been watching kenny's training, and it's truly RAAM-worthy. lots of 200+ mile days. and, he beat tinker in the 508, so he's got to be one of the favorites as of now, i'd say.

paul isn't making a dime out of this, so, he's not really selling used cars (those salesmen make a profit). he's selling a used pro instead. i don't see the problem here.

I love it, don't ask to purchase anything and then donate a portion to his cause, just go straight between the eye's and ask for money. Why doesn't CLIF Bar just sponsor the whole thing, it's the only unifrom he'll be wearing, or is there some way I can get him to wear my uniforms. Now that would be worth something to me. Just let me know.

"Well, I've only been in the sport a couple years and don't know Souza's accomplishments."

he was the most dominating athlete i've ever seen in any multisport discipline (and this was back when "bi"athlon was big). 5 years as the best ride/runner in sport, and best by a LONG way.

further, he was probably the most influential multisport athlete ever in terms of influencing a market. nike, oakley, avia, giro, and other trendy companies owe him quite a bow, whether or not they sponsored him.

other than that, he wasn't anything special.

Paul--

Paul--

please ignore any of the negativity to the real goal. COuld you also please provide an address for a check? I am still working on my paypal getting straightened out.

For those that are questioning Paul's intention--it is common practice for those in the ultra community to ask for assistance from anyone and everybody (without a charity in mind). These endeavors just getting to the START line take more out of you than words can describe. Most of the ultra community (and nonathletes) takes care of each other. On seasons when you aren't racing you give, because you have the ability to give. ON seasons of your races, the good comes back to you. I've personally seen it happen season after season. I don't question anymore, and I give into the universe of those chasing their dream of an ultra adventure.

The amount of time it takes to train for this type of adventure is a full time job plus some. THe cost of RAAM is what prevents many, but when you have unbelievable talent like Souza and my dear friend Pascal from Switzerland, you need the support of others. Give if you want to give, but please don't try to question Paul's intention--he just wants to see his buddy do something he is capable of doing quite well.

Now get Kenny's ass to the saddle :-)

thanks for the positive response! I have nothing to gain, other than the accomplishment of helping a friend out. I sure hope the majority of you do not take my time invested in Kenny/RAAM as a scam, rather as an act of being a good friend. I am scaraficing my year as an athlete to support another athlete, who needs sport more than I do.

Problem with forums is that it is easy to take stabs at one another. Unfortnatley, I am a bit sensitive. I would say that 99.9% of you that know me would agree that I give more than I take. Whether or not anyone gives, I always appreciate the support on slowtwitch.

I have always enjoyed KS's stories. I have been lucky enough to meet Kenny at a few Clif expo's and his enthusiasm for sport is contagious...... I chipped in what I could.

Good luck Kenny!

I'm not suggesting this is a scam at all, or that Paul has economics. I not even suggesting that I have a problem with what he is doing. What I am suggesting is that Paul knew all along that this was the point of arrival and has designed and coordinated his messaging to get us to this point. It's not hard to look back at the stories and the near death misses and say this doesn't exactly add up (the wheel/carburator story is one such example). The historical release of information were simply to sink the hook so that he could help Kenney underwrite his exploits using the ST population. It's not wrong per se, just misleading in my humble opinion. Paul has revealed himself to be what he is -- a salesman.

Paul,

I agree with the advice to ignore all the negative bull shit. I am most blown away at the negative comments towards INMA. These people should just find some other race.

I was a mechanic years back for a RAAM rider...I can see how it would EASILY cost $32k + easily.

If you all are looking for a mediocre wrench that is cheap....

$ 100000 / 3 = $ 33333

Between Souza on the bike and you on the run, you only need to find a swimmer. How about Monty? There you go. Give me $ 1333 for the idea and you have your $ 32k.

Let's forget about the fact that Kenny is the all-time King of duathlon (called biathlon for most of his top days). Most of you are too young in the sport to remember much about that time...

Let's just focus on a guy who has put down credentials to compete in RAAM. He's asked a community he belongs to to help support him on this endeavor.

Now what in the hell is wrong with supporting a fellow ST'er? This doesn't seem like the same board that created TSR, or that did the Peaceful Tribe stuff...

Go Kenny...

Absolutely. Negative threads get over 5,000 views sometimes. If every one of thsoe views were $1 on the way to helping a fellow athlete and be part of something big that would be a positive thing.
