Who would win the Tour if it was draft illegal?
This is a very hypothetical question. I remember reading an article that said the best Allround riders do not make team leaders. To challange for a tour victory you need to be a specialist - A timetrialer or Mountain climber or preferably good at both. I guess you need good threshold power so you can produce lots of power over and hour climb or TT. So how would these riders cope if they couldn't hide in the bunch the rest of the time? Would guys like Bettini or Hancapi (sorry about the spelling) be the best if there was not drafting or would it make not difference at the end of the day (the cream always rises etc etc)

If le Tour were draft illegal, then it would be a very long timed event. Armstrong, Hamilton, Heras, or Ullrich would win it every time.

No way that Heras would be in the mix if it were draft illegal. Short skinny guys would lose lots of time in the flat stages (ie 200+ K of time trialing). Taller skinny guys would be your best bet. Thus the prototypical time trial guy who can also climb, so you end up with the likes of Armstrong and Ullrich either way. The rest of the top ten might be drastically different though.

I think Lance & Jan would be up there,n but Would the fact that the stages would be much longer than the normal TT's effect who would be the strongest? Some of the domestics that drag the peleton around on the flat stages or breakaway specialist seem great at the sub threshold cycling over 4hrs where Guys like say Brad Mcgee kick, but when TT over a short distance and in hour long efforts your Lance and Jan's seem to be king.
