Who is Rico Bogen? (You know the IM70.3 World Champ)
I saw this video come up on my YouTube feed the other day and it reminded me of how little interest people here seemed to have in the new kid on the block. All the post race talk wasn't about the guy who won but about a guy who was never going to and that is pretty sad I think.

So,in his own thread, here is Rico Bogen, the young "nobody" who became the best in the world.

Can't wait to see if anyone,in typical ST fashion, picks up and runs with one certain controversial reference

Thanks for sharing that!

For German speaking people, I recommend to listen to the Pushing Limits Podcast #44. Rico appeared also on the Greg Bennett's (English speaking) show, but I felt a huge difference in the lack of openness or details.

He's still very young and he sounds like that ;) He's super talented, executes training diligently and trusts his small team.

What happened at Ibiza on the run?
And to a lesser extent Luxembourg?

possibly he over biked a little; please also note that run in ibiza was 30km, not 21

He had a great run in Lahti (and Kraichgau) so losing 16 minutes in 30km at Ibiza (swimming and biking alongside the winner Mignon) is unlikely to have been "a little overbiking", but whatever. Heat?
Looking forward to see him race again this season.

.
.
It seems he has had a problem controlling his enthusiasm on the bike to get to T2. He has blown up a few times on the run but,as he says,he is young and learning.

From his Instagram after the Ibiza race.
"Today I started as the youngest in the field at my first long distance race.
As third out of water, I was able to finish the bike leg in the lead position.
Overall finish 14th at the Elite World Triathlon Long Distance World Championships. Struggling on the run with muscular issues on a very hilly course through the Ibiza castle."
,
It seems he didn't learn from his Challenge Mallorca blow up in October last year.
"Take the risk or lose the chance. 🥴

Maybe it wasn't smart to lead the first bike group most of the time.

Maybe it wasn't smart to push the last 30 kilometers to get a gap between me and the leading group.

Maybe it wasn't smart to get on and off the bike first.

For sure it's not good to have everything hurt from the first meter of the run.

But it's my mentality to do something on the bike and not just sit in the group.

Today it wasn‘t rewarded. But I'm still young and I'm learning with every race.

Now it's off-season.
Afterwards I am going to work hard, so that next time I'm not just first on and off the bike."

Replying to no one specifically.

Why does he put his VR unit on upside down? ;)

Seems like a nice kid. Look forward to seeing him in the future.

Not a coach. Not a FOP Tri/swimmer/biker/runner. Barely a MOP AGer.
But I'm learning and making progress.

I suppose it’s a lack of consistency? He is the legit 70.3 world champion, but not necessarily the best in the world. The field in Lahti was soft, plus piggybacking on Funk and Margirier throughout the bike helped. But yes his potential is amazing.

Last year, lots of folks wrote Sam Laidlow's Kona performance as a one off...motor bike drafting etc. Many of us argued, that he had shown his talent outbiking Brownlee in Canada and that he was going to be back and prove a lot of critics wrong.

My gut feeling is that the same will happen with Bogen. Is he the absolute best in the world? Not at the moment, but he is definitely an upcoming top tier athlete and will likely only get better and hopefully be around for a few seasons.
