Which discs can also be used on Track?
Anyone know about Hed, Renn, Bontrager, and Mavic discs? Can their hubs be switched to ride on the track as well? I know corima's disc is made in a track version, but I want one wheel for both.

Thanks

Hello,

Almost any old disk can be converted if it uses a threaded freewheel. I'm pretty sure none of the modern disks using a cassette can be converted. A possibility exists if you can find a modern disk that uses an actual shimano freehub. It has to be the actual shimano mechanism, not just compatible with shimano cogs. A company named Sub3 makes a converter for shimano hubs where you remove the freehub and bolt on the converter. If you can find a disk that use a shimano freehub then this would work, however you would have to use a track bike with rear road spacing (130mm).

Hed has a converter kit, and the dimple Zipp disc has an axel that can be switched in about 1 min. Mavic's older comete disc was a 7spd and could be flipped to be used on the track also.

Hey Jared, all current Zipp discs are threaded for track compatibility on the non-cassette side and can be swapped over in about 30 seconds using two 5mm allen keys. If you have any questions you can PM me, it is very simple, but our website is not fully finished and the link for the track disc just goes to the generic disc page, so it isn't very clear.

Older Mavic discs had interchangable hubs and could be made to be front, rear freewheel, rear shimano cassette, or rear track.

Zipps rear discs can now be made to run Shimano cassette, Campagnolo Cassette, and track rear.

Old thread on cassettes would be convertable, but not usable with modern 10 speed indexed drivetrains.
