Where to swim in San Francsico?
Anyone know a decent pool or master-group close to Moscone Center?

Staying in SF 12th-19th March, hope to swim every day

University of San Francsico Koret Center is probably the only 50M pool you'll be able to use.

There are a lot of gyms closeby with 25M pools. Then there is Aquatic Park already mentioned....swim in a protected area of San Francisco Bay for FREE.

Saw a lot of people using Aquatic park last summer while I was at the Cable Car Chase race. All wearing wetsuits. But it looked cool. They swam around a series of pylons in a circle about 100m long, no kickturns req. Aquatic Park is at the very west end of the embarcadero. Hard to find parking though, but that is standard for SF.

If you walk from Moscone down Howard Street toward the Bay, the Embarcadero YMCA is on Steuart St. just off Howard. Less than a mile. It has a 25-meter indoor pool and masters groups. http://www.ymcasf.org/Embarcadero

The Four Seasons Hotel has a LA fitness Center with 25 M pool, just up the street from the conference center.

I think you will be surprised to find that you are the only one (probably) in a wetsuit, even this time of year. When there is a group swimming in wetsuits it is probably Team in Training. The Dolphin Club and South End Rowing eschew wetsuits year round. I spent the night abord the Balclutha (tall ship tied up there) last month with my son's 4th grade class and watched speedo clad swimmers from pre-dawn to twilight. I saw 2 wetsuits the entire time. They are nails!

It will be about 14 degrees C plus or minus 2 degrees.

Don't even start with that Dophin/Rowing Club Speedo business; if you are built like an old walrus then of course you won't go hypothermic in 10 minutes. Wear a thong for all I care! Those folks couldn't ride a bike or run to save their lives and in any case the Speedos in the Bay thing is just a big macho poseur thing for the tourists;-).
