Jersey pocket is just fine. I meant its too big for a bento box. Samsung Note 3.

Oh jeez yeah. Note 3 is nice but even an iPhone won't fit in a bento box unless you plan on carrying nothing else in it.

That, or sometimes one of those running armbands but I often find I either have to cinch it too tight on my arm, or have to adjust it frequently. So usually the ziploc/jersey pocket option.

I put it in a small ziploc bag along with my ID, ATM card, cash and my car key and carry it in my jersey pocket.

In my jersey pocket for two reasons:

1) It's safest and least likely to get damaged from being "crammed among the tools, CO2, etc" as you point out.
2) If I ever have a mishap (fingers crossed) that results in me lying in a ditch with broken bones and separated from my bike, I want to have a prayer of reaching it.

I also put my phone in a loksak baggie (small version of one of these). I used to do this only when I thought it might rain, then i realized I'm not all that great of a meteorologist. Also protects it from sweat. I pick them up at a local hardware store for a few bucks and can operate my iPhone through them.

Middle jersey pocket, in a ziplock bag so it doesn't get sweaty along with my ID, medical insurance cards, a credit card, and a little bit of cash.

This is exactly what I do too.

A couple weeks ago I tucked my galaxy S4 in the waistband of my shorts on a run, and when I was done the sweat had fried it. Luckily I was able to get a warranty replacement. Always goes in a ziplock bag on rides now. And I've stopped taking it on runs all together.

This. Seems odd to do anything fancier.

I call it the "cyclists wallet". Cell phone, credit card, maybe a $20 and an ID in case of emergency. All in a ziplock baggie in the jersey pocket.

And a pair of reading glasses after you turn 40. :-)

I've been using this for about 6 months. Highly recommended! http://donkeylabel.com/product/pack-animal/
The chamois balm is great too.

For those long solo rural routes I carry the phone in the middle rear jersey pocket, zip lock bag for the phone and key fob (dreaded push button start car key fob that is more expensive to replace than my iphone) because it does seem that I am either drenched in sweat or riding in the rain. If I am on the occasional group ride I don't carry it. I wear a Pebble watch that will buzz my wrist if a call comes in, but fat chance I am going stop to answer any call unless it is an emergency from my wife.

........and Dual Wear sunglasses because I am well over 40 now and can't even see the biggest numbers on the Garmin 800 display clearly. :-)

I used to put it in a ziplock.

Staples had this:

for $10 so I picked it up. The lanyard unclips and it fits pretty darn good in a jersey pocket.

You can still use the keypad so the Garmin LiveTrack is not an issue. I use that on every ride.

iPhone goes in a waterproof ziplog baggie along with about $20 for emergencies, and then stashed in center jersey pocket. Barely know it's there.

That flip belt looks like it would work quite well for both biking and running. Thanks.

I put it in the middle as I feel that the stuff in that bag are things that I'm least likely to need during a ride. Left and right sides are for snacks and tools.

Jersey pocket?

Boom!

The simplicity, utility and elegance of a well made 3-pocket cycling jersey, is not understood by many triathletes.
