What Headband are you Wearing Under your TT Helmet?
Did a final race simulation today with everything I plan to wear on the bike at Gulf Coast in a couple weeks and I'm still having issues with sweat stinging my eyes to the point that it feels like a safety issue. I wore my new Giro Aerohead (the vented one) with a visor and Compressport headband and, while my head felt cool, I was having to stop every 30-45 minutes to wring it out. I wore it once before with nothing (I buzz mi cabeza) and the results were all over the inside of my visor.

What are you guys wearing nowadays? The search function turned up some fairly dated mixed reviews for both Halo Headbands and Gutr.

I am a sweat a lot and use a POC Cerebral helmet. I have used the Compressport On/Off headband but there are two kinds a wider one https://www.bikester.dk/...Pw4fsgEaAje9EALw_wcB which is the one I use and I have had good success (3-4 hour rides in 28-30 degrees Celsius).

This works better than those headbands like guttr and halo. It tends to saturate slowly while perspiration continues to evaporate. It will take longer before you have sweat in your eyes. Just a much better solution imho.

I've had decent results using the Castelli summer headband: https://www.amazon.com/...aps%2C226&sr=8-1

It does more wicking than absorbing, spreading the sweat across the band for quicker absorption. I've found it to work well for Oly-length races under my AeroHead. I leave it on for the run.

Recently, I've switched to the Castelli skullcap: https://www.amazon.com/...aps%2C226&sr=8-2

It does a much better job of stopping drips, again by spreading the sweat across the entire skully for lots of evaporative surface area, and allowing better airflow through the helmet. I switch to the headband in T2, just because running in a skully looks weird.

They seem a bit ridiculous, but these work, even in aero: https://www.veostrip.com/. Also great for sweaty indoor training. You could apply before the swim and put it under your cap or just dry your head off in T1.

Try putting Vaseline on your eyebrows before you head out. Creates a nice dam and will keep sweat out of your eyes.

Probably setting myself up for ridicule here, but will offer my $0.02…

I have the same problem - heavy head/face sweat, and wear contact lenses for training and racing so anything like sweat - or worse, sweat mixed with sunscreen and shampoo, etc. - gets unpleasant fast.

I’ve had great success for a number of years now using women’s maxi pads wrapped in a bandana. They come in different absorption thicknesses and sizes, so you can fine tune the fit under a helmet and pick the right pad for heat of the day, duration of session, etc. They soak up a *huge* amount of sweat.

If it’s a really hot, humid day, I’ll also use double sided tape to affix a couple of them to the inside of the crown of my helmet.

Works a charm.

I ended up buying a 4" Halo on Amazon to try out. It's the same size as my Compressport band, but the yellow band inside sounded promising.

I'm definitely gonna try applying vaseline on my eyebrows and test it out next week after my band arrives.

Thanks for the input!
