What’s the benefit of Dash saddle and seatpost combo?

I’m sorry if I missed the data, but is there a benefit to the dash saddle and seat post? It’s insanely expensive if it’s just to drop some grams. I haven’t seen any wind tunnel data, and would love to know if it’s a faster option. Thanks in advance.

The benefit is it looks awesome. But, unless they've redesigned it, their BTS bracket is kind of chunky and negates the effect IMO.

Couldn't agree more. It also passes the eye test as far as potential aero gainz.

Fun fact: Back in 2013 when DCR did some aero testing with Jim at ERO Sports in Carson, we did a couple runs on my S5 testing a stock post/Adamo Attack saddle vs the Dash integrated post/Strike saddle. The integrated setup did test faster BUT we only did a few laps with each, and that is not nearly enough data to reach a conclusion one way or the other. So while the initial results were promising, I wouldn't draw any conclusions from them.

Perhaps a candidate for a future Fast or Fiction episode, since I have the P5 Dash integrated post/saddle that could be tested against the stock post/standard saddle, but that would require Jim finding other test riders with a P5 and me finding time to head down to OC, so odds are low...

But again, it sure does look awesome!

some quick thoughts:

  • the British Cycling team found the direct mount saddles on their Hope track bikes to be faster. We helped with the last Olympic saddles https://www.cyclingnews.com/...-the-tokyo-olympics/ and keep an eye out for the saddles they'll use at the 2024 Games.
  • Dan Bigham did not find a direct mount set up faster, hence his ISM PN3.0 saddle with rails that he uses and tested in his hour record prep for Ganna: https://velo.outsideonline.com/...cfd-cda-core-bigham/ and Ganna used a saddle with rails in his hour record.
  • Joe Skipper is on a one-off direct mount version of our V8 saddle with the Dash seatpost, and he loves it: https://www.triathlete.com/...pers-argon-18-e-119/
  • A top UK TT amateur tested a similar V8 direct mount set up but with a stiff carbon layup and found it uncomfortable, so he's going back to the V8 saddle but with rails. He did not find the direct mount set up to be faster and thinks there is is too much turbulence around the legs for their to be a benefit.
