How cold is too cold for a long swim with a full wet suit? Also, how much will a insulated cap help (Barracuda)?
There is an adventure race in west-central PA with a 4.75 mile swim (with fins) that FOLLOWS a difficult 21 mile run (with bike, kayak, orienteering, and more running to follow).
Anyway, the water temps here are mid-to-low 50's, and in years past, the opening run seems to have the potential to throw off electrolytes, etc., and cause cramping or chilling in some competitors. And the water is colder this year than ever!
I've done this comfortably with a full suit and no cap when the water was in the 60's but we are nowhere near that now.
Any advice? Thanks!
