Video camera. Tell me what to get.
Looking for a video camera that could be mounted to a bike helmet or handlebars, record 90 minutes or so of video, and that could be immersed in a pool to video swim strokes. HD quality is not important. Low cost is quite important. Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks.

Is $179 considered "low cost"?

Any particular model GoPro? Looks like there are several different models. Thanks.

The one Nick linked is the least expensive (I think it's the only non-1080 model they've got now). You can always add additional mounts if the included ones don't match your needs.

Both GoPro and Contour make good cameras, and have a lower priced model that would likely fit the bill for what you need. If you opt for a model above the base Contour offering you can get an add-on connector that allows you to use an iphone/Android phone as a viewfinder as well - pretty slick...

That takes you out of your budget range for right now, but may be something to consider when selecting which model you buy.

I picked this one up:

JVC WP-10AUS HD Waterproof Video Camera

Really like it, but can't mount it on a helmet or bars.

You can get an adaptor that clamps onto the bars for a camera...

How many hours can it record on a charge? Does it take big SD cards, i.e. 64GB?

Don't know in terms of "hours" probably 30-45mins.

Just picked it up and used it for the first time at IMOO.

It does take big SD cards, need a class 4 or faster for HD recording, I picked up a class 6.

Downside is no swappable battery.

The 960 is a great camera (960p resolution).

Also worth looking at the Contour's I saw for US customers that they're doing a good deal atm on the normal 1080p CoutourHD on amazon.com

Here's the ROAM which claims to be waterproof to a meter:

Ask Rappstar about that, he can tell you from experience that you can indeed take pics with it.

Here's a link to one of my cycling videos. I mounted the cam to the handle bars. I've raced with it a few times.

Tachyon MicroHD Helmet Camera it does have audio and is waterproof to 100ft (there's a video at the link that shows the camera working at 160ft in the bottom of Lake Placid). It also takes still shots. BTW - this camera fell off my bike the first time I ever used it at about 35mph. I stopped and went back to pick it up from the middle of the street and its worked like a charm ever since. It friggin' tough as nails!!

I don't have one, but have been looking. Leaning toward GoPro.

Here is a comparison:

Any suggestions for a smaller one that you could wear on your helmet pretty much full time? The GoPro would be redonkulous.

The Tachyon micro comes with a helmet mount. Its really very small, not much bigger then your thumb.
