VO2 Max testing in SE Michigan?
Does anyone on the board know of any places that conduct VO2 testing in SE Michigan? Treadmill or cycle trainer would work out fine.

Thanks...

Yep. I'm at Eastern and we just purchased two brand spanking new metabolic systems; portable no less. Contact me off list and I can set you up.

BTW, why the link to Muha's site?

Hey Steve,

Which units did you get? Korr or Newleaf?

I've had my don by Frank Fedel at the Center for Athletic Medicine at Henry Ford Hospital. I did both running (treadmill) and cycling VO2 max/AT and max heart rate testing.

Dude, hot off the presses Jaeger. They are sweet!!! I was raised on Jaeger Oxycon during my Ph.D. so, when I saw they were coming out with a portable, I had to have one. Heck, why not get two. Luckily I don't have to run these purchases through my wife. Now if I could only convince the school to buy me an 808 with PT SL;)

Frank's no longer at Ford, he's a Visiting Lecturer in our department. I'm sure Ford still does them, but not sure who.

DUDE! those are sweat units! I use the Korr, I like it, especially with the newer software. I am also very soon/close to getting the new IMETT unit that Woodway is distributing- I am friendly with the guy who developed them and will get one so I can do side by side tests- Cool thing bout the IMETT is that if you test using a Woodway Force (which we do for runners) is that you can control and record speed and incline from the laptop and its software- you can also measurce force or power output of the runner as another variable for training (good for the power athletes we work with ie football)

Check it out...

I'm a member of Team Nordic Ski Racer....I'm also the "race director" for our fall duathlons...running and rollerskiing...its very informal and great training for the racing season. I also wrote an article for the site recently about my "comeback" to ski racing after many years....http://www.nordicskiracer.com/...olleyCupComeback.asp

I'll be in touch about setting something up...any ideas what the tests typically run?

Thanks.....

So, how do we get frank on this forum? I new him slightly. He was a friend of a friend. Its bee years since i saw him at a race. truly a bike geek of the 1st order ( I mean that as a complement).

Probably 20 years ago he built his own power measuring device. load cells in the pedals and some sort of position sensor on the chainrind and frame. He could tell power, power for each leg and "effiecincy" based on how much unweighting each leg did on the upstroke. His bike looked like a cross between a bike and a NASA experiment.

I've checked it out a bunch in the past. Unfortunately, it is winter and my rollerskiing season is over, so, it's time to start thinking about the bike. I'll tell you though, there were some pretty good skis with you guys back in Oct-Nov. Set up a pretty good fitness foundation to get me through the past month or so. All this snow really gets in the way of good skiing;)

With regard to the testing, there are any number of tests we can perform based on what your training is focused on. I'll look for your e-mail.

It's time for snow skiing!...not rollerskiing! Thier will most likely be a group of us out at Kensington golf course tonight. We have had a pretty good snow ski season for downstate MI. I can't think of a better way to stay fit for Tri's in the northern states?

Better than running in 10 deg. weather like last Sunday!

Thanks again for the info.........

Sorry, for personal reasons, I won't be driving up to Kensington anytime soon. Say hi to Mike and boys for me.
