Tri bike fitting question
I have decided to bite the bullet and buy a tri bike. I had a fitting done and am trying to find a bike. But I am confused about the reach -

Current bike - reach is 388mm
Tri bike recommended reach - 469mm

That is a difference of about 3". Are the measurements done differently? Are the pads on a tri bike that far forward?

I trust the measurements but it just seems so weird to me the tri bike would seem that much bigger than what I am currently riding.

Is that first number your frame reach, or your actual fit reach?

Great question! It's the frame reach, I guess I don't know the exact reach but I know it hasn't been moved forward 3" I have had a shorter stem put during a fit.

The reach number for your road bike is a measurement on the frame.

The reach number in your tri bike fit is a measurement to the back or middle of the pads.

That's better
The important number is the Arm Pad Reach BB - 431mm
Which will correspond to a frame reach of 400-430mm

Then Arm Pad Stack BB of 727 means you're looking for a high stack frame, for example

The Shiv is 425, 565 (rim brake version)
Plasma 4 417,560
Argon 18 417,583

Your options for bikes will be a bit limited by the over 700mm of stack.
You can see that the Cervelo PX bikes don't make it to your stack height until the XL size and that is their taller bike

I think an image of the bike fit would be more informative.

Based the fit data, yes.
Especially since the Langma can't get Bar Y over 650

That is interesting because the P series are on my list and I am currently looking at a used P3...

It appears that you aren't sitting on that saddle properly.

Did your fitter talk to you about that?

We did talk about sitting on the saddle but I thought these pictures were taken at the end of the session.

What did the fitter say about how to sit on that saddle?

The notes say "good bike posture starts with a forward pelvic rotation. Pelvis is rotated onto the pelvic bones with the pelvic bones resting on the saddle rails"

check my reply to you on the Cervelo thread. I edited my post to factor in that your reach was to mid-pad, not to back of pad. Still an XL in the PX, probably a 58cm in the P-Series.

I saw your reply. I am tall (5'10") but cannot even get on my friend's 58.

The one time I tried I couldn't reach! Maybe it was her 61 but I am pretty confident it was the 58. I am riding a 54 now, used to ride a 56. The 56 was comfortable but the 54 is moreso. That is something I am so confused about. Pretty much everyone I talk to says their tri bike is smaller than their road and I am looking at bikes that are bigger than what I am riding now. But I have to trust the experts on this one.
