I'll be at Ralph's California Half Ironman next month. Not knowing anything about the bike course I'm wondering what size tire to use. Currently I ride on 700x23 or 700x20 depending on the course (surface quality, hills, turns, etc.). Wheels are Reynolds Stratus DV clinchers. Bike is a 2004 Caliente and I weigh 150 lbs. Thanks for any suggestions.

Roads for the most part are pretty good quality and smooth relative to what I ride on here in CT. Part of the course (~10 to 15%) takes you through parking lots, bike paths and rougher road surfaces. Last year several areas (underpasses) had standing water with mud, short sections not much to worry about.
