The hardest part about being a Triathlete
Quote | Reply
What is the hardest part about you being a triathlete? Obviously being a triathlete is not all rainbows and unicorns.....this stuff is hard.

My issue is time. I have committed to another Ironman and with a wife, kids, work, a coach, friends, and life in general its hard to juggle it all. I'm blessed with an understanding wife because she is a triathlete too but still time management is not easy. This stuff is expensive as well. When life gets in the way of a workout I feel guilty about missing the workout but I also feel equally guilty about spending all this time training away from family, friends, and life in the first place. Being a driven Type A isn't easy especially when I don't win the daily scheduling war.

My wife and I are both triathletes. The hardest part is the laundry (especially in the winter, with layers and all). We create a lot of dirty laundry....

aging. Today's best is not as good as yesterday. But it beats being dead or a golfer.

Being old, and not being able to work out, as much as I want. I used to dream about retirement, and working out all day. Now I'm retired, and the old body can only take so much.

And peeing. Another price for being an older male. I'm so freaking tired of peeing. It's a fine balance. Just at the point I've fueled and hydrated properly, I have to freaking pee. It's a never ending battle.

$$$, cost, expenses, entry fees, bike upgrades, pool memberships, running shoes, $$$, did I mention $$$?
I've got time at the moment as I have no kids, I've got the body for it (hooray I can rent a car for a reasonable price now I just turned 25), but I simply don't have the money. I honestly don't even need new gear, could race on what we have at the moment, but entry fees and travel sucks.

Constantly trying to find new people to tell how you’re a triathlete?

Being worried I won't have enough opportunities in the day to tell people I race triathlons. I don't care if it's the same person, it just needs to be talked about, preferably as frequently as possible.

What about finding new ways to bring it up in every day conversation with everyone I work with on a daily basis

I got that fixed. I just tell everyone I'm a pilot.

Hardest part is time and getting older. I love vacations when I stay home. I double up training every day, don't feel rushed, and it is so awesome. If I could work from home that'd help a lot. But nope.

The hardest part for me, and I assume may others, is trying to get good at 3 sports at once.
I'm on the bike trainer 5 days a week at the moment, I want to swim twice and run 3 times as well. That's 10 sessions a week and fairly barebones training.

Obvious one being time. Plenty of money to travel around the world and do tris, but time! I mean i do have time, but i also want to do other things with my life.
I would also say recovery, sometimes i want to train more but my body just wont allow me to!
Or maybe not having any real friends doing tri, i think it must be awesome having close friends to do tri with!

Crashing on the bike. I've crashed a couple times. One time I went head over heels and could have easily been run over by a car. Overall I've been pretty lucky, but it certainly has made me wonder why the eff I do this - and is it worth it?

Where's the like button! I would have to say being around other triathletes that only want to talk triathlons...

One solution is a call-centre job.
Endless stream of new folks calling you in person, 1:1 to learn that you're a triathlete.

Constantly trying to find new ways to work it into conversations is exhausting.

Summed up:
(girls I date)
Her: Why can't you go out with all of us tonight?
Me: I've got a cycle and run tomorrow morning
Her: Can't you do it in the afternoon?
Me: This workout will GO INTO the afternoon time frame
Her: So you'd rather work out than go out with me and my friends tonight?
Me: Yes?
Her: OMG YOU ARE AN ASS! Have fun being single and working out.
Me: *humming* - You got to know when to hold em, know when to fold em, know when to walk away, know when to run.
