The evolution of a trigeek
So just how does a triathlete evolve? My theory goes as this...
1. The initial idea to race stems from several sources, one, former college athlete looking for something to do to remain competitive. Two, former Al Bundy (5 touchdowns in one game) high school jock comes to the conclusion he has gotten fat, and needs to redeem himself. Three, An injured runner who takes up cross training and discovers a new passion. Four, A life changing experience such as a divorce/addiction has left one with a void to fill....and there are many more...
2. A first bike is purchased, not top of the line, but not a huffy sante fe....first race is completed and the hunger for more develops..several other sprints are also completed and the eyes wander to other toys in the transition area.
3. As the passion simmers, the season gets started 2 months sooner than the last...a wetsuit is purchased, just cheap enough to use for a one time race.(lurking on slowtwitch begins)
4. Front race wheel is purchased, as the thought of buying 2 seems a bit much.
5. Races find you traveling a bit further than the year before, and more often.(posting on slowtwitch begins)
6. In the offseason a more expensive bike is purchased and an upgraded wetsuit is not far off. This bike is much better, but you know there is another one for 2k more that you will eventually have.
7. Rear race wheel is purchased, half ironman in the plans, after finishing it, wondering how in the hell anyone manages a full.
8. 2 years and 3k later, Ironman is tackled and you contemplate a coach, or training aid.
9. Performance has leveled off and your looking for an edge, you buy PC's.
10. performance goes to a new level, and your wishing you had bought the PC's at step 2.
Advice to beginners, save yourself a long evolution to performance and get some PC's.
