Literally into the boards. It seemed to be a combo of a couple of things...men being pushed to the right and boards moving forward to keep them from going on the inside of the first sighting buoy. Generally pros are told a couple of things...set a good example and going inside the sighting buoys is ok, just not the turn buoys. I didn't attend the pro meeting, so I don't know if anything was said about this. So again, a combo of things.

He looks like he's shifting from running to triathlon. World 50k record holder, 2:15is marathoner, etc. I imagine the bike and run need a little work :-)

Since some of you are reading this, What are your plans for the day. I see this as a cheat day ( sliders for dinner, pizza for lunch beer throughout). Then I remember, I have a 1/2 marathon tomorrow... argghhh.

Beer is ok, right ?

Go #7!!

No Michellie this year thank god. I was awfully tired of her talking over Welchy and Matt Lieto about 45 minutes into the race last year!

Beer;

Depends on what you're drinking :)

Heh. He's got skinny little legs and probably needs to put some work into the bike and swim. :-)

not that im in any hurry for Macca to retire, but im excited to see him give commentating a go.

check out ESPN Aussies Abroad 2011 Ironman World Championship on youtube. He does a fair amount of commentating on there and actually does a great job. It's a bit of shame that he's racing this year because he could oust at least one of the commentators.

He is not the 50ksouth world record holder, that would be Thompson Magawana.

I was seeing that too. He also seems to change up his cadence a lot. I like to change it up myself, but it seems like the pro folks tipically use a consistent cadence. I like Luke a lot and am really happy to see him looking so strong.

Gotta think that Pete Jakobs being so close to crowie is gonna make it interesting.

Ok, just back from the bike course at around 30+ miles. Huge lead group, and several were not riding 10m, hope they end up in the tent. When the men went by it was 15 to 20mph direct head wind here. So ideal conditions for drafting at 10m, let alone shorter. There were a lot of guys in that group that were riding ok though, so not all pushing it. When the women came by, the wind had layed down to about 5mph. Not sure what it will be around the corner to hawi though, but it definitely calmed down here, so the AG'ers are going to love it.

Macca was in a group of 5 guys about 3 minutes back, so he must have got caught up from behind. Could be good for him, as it of course had to be faster riders to come from behind. Lots of single and double guys riding out there, rapp is just under 10 minutes down all alone. Tom lowe is 2 minutes back of him, so do not expect that duo to form up at this point. It will all be picking off guys for him once he gets into his negative split mode, and the guys overriding now or sitting in the tents will be his targets.

Womens group was 6 girls, with one guy mixed in there. A couple dicey gaps, but we will see at the tents. Then some single girls riding, and then a group of 5 that had no marshall, but were all at least 12 m apart and riding really clean..

Has Mckenzie improved his run? Just looking at last year's Kona his bike was very strong but was well off the pace on the run.
