Doesn't mean it's right - his split at 8 miles was still over 8 minutes behind.

Ya i saw the swim going back and forth, but it looked to me like it was a side current and apparently they had to go around buoys this year it looked like. SO they were getting swept sideways and having to swim back to the buoy line. And i cannot believe rapp is in the lead group, there has to be a mistake somewhere, either his swim time, or the spotter who says he made up 8 minutes.. That is just not reasonable.

Looks like Caine Eckstein bested Potts in the swim. 49:23. Damn fast.

Ya he is one of the aussie top OW swimmers and lifeguards, not a surprise there. Under normal conditions he would be fighting for the 46 minute record, so you can see how hard the swim was today..

according to the 11mi split on the athlete tracker, rapp is still 6+ min down off the pack

That's why they need the GPS trackers on these guys/girls! They're also saying Jessica Jacobs is riding with Keat and Verterby, but Jacobs was 10 minutes behind them after the swim so it can't be her.

Good to see an Ironman (surf) champion racing a different kind of Ironman... I saw his older brother race when I lived in Newie. Those guys are amazing.

In the old days potts would have got to draft off of him, and it would have given him a extra minute advantage. Often AG'ers would have fastest overall swim times.. Wolfgang got to swim on Lars feet when he went the 46+ course record, probably the fastest ever pro swim time..

wellington just said rapp is about 10 minutes back.

Very cool - head down for most of the time as well.

Rinny more than 5 minutes down already....and the other main contenders in a pack at the front of the race.

Absolutely wonderful to get to listen to Chrissie giving commentary. Would be even better to have her racing this year....:)

Maybe the error with the spotter was that he lost sight of Rapp and was fspotting Kip Litton.

Anyone else find it annoying how Greg Welch keeps referring to Amanda Stevens as "Dr Amanda Stevens"? heh...we get it, she is a doctor. Does she even work as a doctor tho?
