Head down is his fastest position. Try's to get into it as often as possible. Not sure on shifting saddle position.

I think they mean that he is the proven fastest runner in the race, and thus far the lead bikers have not gotten enough of a lead to hold him off. All off past splits of course, but the statement is not out of line..
