Tacx Bushido Questions (need your help)
Bought one so that my wife & I could cycle together in eternal Zwiftbliss.

Over past 18 years I have gone from rollers to DOS Computrainer to Windows Computrainer. I really dig the do it yourself ergo workouts.

Here are my concerns questions with the Bushido.
  • No heart rate using my non-coded Polar strap. Do I need to buy a Tacx one?
  • The software I downloaded from Tacx seems to work but both in the videos and in the ergo workout that I created, the load unit is supposed to increase the tension but it does not. Where do I kick the machine to get it right like my Computrainer?
  • Do you have any other neat things that I should try / experiment with re. the Bushido.
  • The connectivity questions regarding Zwift will likely follow, once I get the current issues sorted out.
Thanks for the sage advices

What are you using to control the trainer - sounds like a Windows PC + their software? Are you connecting to it via Bluetooth or ANT+ (ANT+ would be a separate dongle).

Are you using the Tacx smartphone app or a Win10 program? Is seems like the latter. You might try the smartphone app - the preprogrammed training parts are next to useless without a paid subscription, but you can test the connection via BT and do a calibration for free. That might be useful for debugging the WIn10 problem.

Yes, you will need a HR strap that broadcasts BT. This does not need to be Tacx-branded. Many are ANT+ only (Garmin, especially), others are BT only or BT *and* ANT+ concurrently. You need a BT or BT *plus* ANT+ HR transmitter. You might check out DCRainmaker's blog - he tests fitness tech and has reviews of a few HR straps, I believe. He recommends a Wahoo BT *plus* ANT+ strap, I think, named TICKR. It does some tricks you may not need, so there might be a lower cost device that simply broadcasts HR over BT.

Darn, I was hoping NOT to spend > $ on this project. Do any ST volk have any cheap & reliable suggestions for straps?

You could try the classifieds, might be some deals that pop up in there. Amazon has some cheaper ones, but the wahoo tickr is currently down to $40 - https://www.amazon.com/..._apa_i_7oodEbR6E93BV - probably the best bet for something with known backing/reliability.
