TDF DVD? Team CSC DVD?
Hi. Does anyone have recommendations for the best Tour de France DVD set to buy? Are the World Cycling Productions ones the ones to have? Are they the only game in town? Where the best place to buy? Also, I heard that there was a Team CSC "behind-the-scenes" DVD somewhere. Anyone seen this? Where do you get it? I'd love to see more of Riis in action. Thanks!

This is in no way an answer to your question but if you're after inspiring cycling footage I can't recommend highly enough a DVD called 'A Sunday in Hell' about the 196? Paris Roubaix. It's got this incredible quiet soundtrack and matter of fact presentation that really brings home the majesty of the race and some great camerawork with arial shots of the peloton and these long shots across the Belgian countryside where all you can see of the approaching peloton is this rising fog of dust - Promise the best $20 (or however much a DVD costs in the US) you'll spend

This CSC behind the scenes movie from the 2004 season is called 'Overcoming'.

There's two different Overcoming trailers on the net. Some of the clips are the same, but others are different. One is with Danish subtitles and the other with English subtitles. But the language spoken is a mix of Danish, English and Italian.

The Overcoming movie opened in Danish theatres June 10, 2005. It will be avaiable on DVD later this year.

The old movie 'A Sunday in Hell' about Paris-Roubaix 1976 was made by the Danish film-maker Jørgen Leth. Today he is also cycling commentator for Danish TV2 and has been for over 10 years. He is commentating TdF at the moment, and interviewing Lance and co. after the stages. Jørgen Leth was also involved in the new movie 'Overcoming' as an consultant. Overcoming was made by another Danish award winning film-maker Tómas Gislason.

Paris-Roubaix 1976. “A Sunday in Hell is arguably the best film ever made about professional cycling.” International Film Guide. This film is not only a study of the battle between Merckx, DeVlaeminck, Marten and Moser over the pave, but it is also a powerful documentary film! A classic psychological and dramatic study of what it means to race in a Spring Classic. 95 minutes

There's also another CSC documentary called 'Smertens Sejr', it's avaiable to watch online.

I stole this from another forum:

The Danish Broadcasting corporation is rerunning their documentary from 2003, "Smertens Sejr" - literally "Victory of Pain".

Smertens Sejr (1 Hour)

Essentially a precursor of "Overcoming"; it documents the 2003 Tour de France from CSC's point of view. It focuses most of all on Tyler Hamilton and Nicki Sørensen (the Danish champion), and their ups and downs during the race.

The film is Danish, without subtitles, but due to the international nature of the team, of course much of the discussion in the documentary is in English.

Paris-Roubaix is only raced in Northern France, so I don't think you see any Belgian countryside in the movie, although Roubaix is close to the Belgian border ;-)

There will be a DVD entitled something like "7 Years of Lance" coming out after the Tour. World Cycling will be carrying it. Start saving your money now...it won't be cheap.
