8x100 @ 1:20 as 50 drill, 50 kick --- this was touch-n-go for me and my slow kicking
8x100 @ 1:30 race pace (:58-1:00)
6x100 @ 1:15 25 moderate, 50 build, 25 kick
6x100 @ 1:25 race pace (:57- :59)
4x100 @ 1:10 50moderate, 50 Build
4x100 @ 1:20 race pace (:59 on all and it hurt!)
2x100@ 1:05 easy as you can but still make the send off... HAHAHAHA it was basically a 200 with an open turn for me.
2x100 @ 1:15 race pace ( 1:01 and :57) first one was rough after the previous part. Second had enough rest to gut it out.

That right there is why I no longer feel like a swimmer. Awesome that you completed this set - been since HS I could do one like this

This is my shocked face.

No way I could complete that set either. My yesterday swim was 30 minutes of 100y intervals at 1:40, and then a slower aerobic swim for 15 minutes. That was maybe 1:50/100y. I started swimming competitively just 3+ years ago so yeah I suck.

20x25 @ :40 odds:drill, evens: sprint no breathing.

6200 scy. And I want to take a nap!

I am curious what you mean by "race pace." 500? Also, you were #1 AG at IMSG, nice job, but you were "only" 55:XX when there were a lot of pros under 53:00. Do you think you are swimming faster now than you were then? I don't think very many pros can make that set.

Ehh, I wasn't even close. I did a 1900 instead in 24:28. I didn't feel bad, but I had no gitty-up. I think I was at 19:04 at the 1500.

You were not that far off, cut yourself some slack. So at the 1500 you were 24 seconds shy of your goal, but it was part of a longer swim. I'm sure if you cut that 1900 short you could have forced it in at a little higher pace, so probably 1850+?? Not bad for a workout tt when you are not feeling it, us old dudes would kill to be in your ballpark..

Bike/run brick for me today, so no swim to report. I'm starting my panic training for the upcoming race in a week and a half..

Meet was cancelled due to a last minute fundraiser for the team. I'll do a 3000 for time in the next little bit... I will probably do T60 again this year, maybe I will submit my results this year!

Did one of my friends birthday sets this morning. Not sure why, but I always enjoy them. Pool was set up LC and we did 26 200s.

6 warm up easy
2x(on 3:30, 3:20, 3:10, 3:20, 3:30) at 2.52-2.55
5 as (50k, 50s, 50k, 50s with fins)
5 on 3:00, 3:10, 3:20, 3:30, all out pull. Was 3:00-3:05. Pull was 2:42 100 c/d
100 c/d easy

5300 LCM in 1:30 or so. On top of the 5100m yesterday, I'm feeling it quite a bit. Hit 28k yards last week and am shooting for 30k this week.

Once a week still hitting Mead. Yesterday afternoon was a nice day. About 75 and no wind. Water temp though is down to 64F. Used lard to ward off the chill. Will make it into December without a wetsuit. In the pic is my course. Center buoy 75 yards off shore directly out from the ramp is the start of the laps. Sprint the 75 out to the center, right turn one bouy then left around and back to the north past the start middle buoy then buoy left and back to the middle start. Lap 1. Repeat for lap 2. Then a half lap. To the south buoy and then back to the middle and then 75yards back in to the ramp. Figure about 1670. I get the splits and record so as to compare
to other swims, effort levels and sea conditions.

Put in two big bike weeks(100+miles a week) so swimming has taken a back seat. So did a good quality swim to get ready for the 1k swim in the tri next week;

those are some fast pulls - you use paddles and buoy? I'm curious why the pulls instead of swims?

4x500 @ 8:00 (~7:05 -6:35)
10x100@1:30 (~1:20-1:15) - really dragging on these
200im cd

3200 scy
all times approx, forgot the contacts again, clock got blurrier as it got darker. was feeling kinda tired and out of breath for no apparent reason, then woke up with sore throat and headache - seems i caught some kinda oobleck.

I like to pull a lot and hard the closer it gets to race day. For OW and especially wetsuit swimming, it seems to be a better workout and more sport specific. I also like to throw in a little more fly too, that also helps my speed. And i use medium paddles and the new eney buoy. I just got it and it really bumps me up to where the wetsuit feels like. Not as high overall of course, but i think in a wetsuit you get raised more in the rear, so using a buoy that gets me on that plane, and forces me to drag my legs, is a good simulator for that type of swimming.

And pay attention to sore throats, unless you were at a concert the night before... (-;

Also the water clarity. Along the buoy line, depth around 15 feet, one can see every rock! Still problems from the birds, the Coots! Swimmer itch! Just 4 spots, 4 bites. Can live with that. I had thought that with the cold water now, the parasites would be gone. Not yet.

ick. We have agua mala here but it isn't parasitical, instead a bloom of baby jellies. :) I think I'd prefer the jellies. :)

I remember Fountain Valley High School pool which was so shallow at one end you really had to take caution on your flip turns. During Water Polo season, they had a special goal at that end that was maybe 7 ft tall because when the goalie stood up, the water was only half way up his thigh. It was nearly impossible for the field players to stay off the bottom.

TC, Longview seems a long way from Corvallis... Nice country out there (during the summer, somewhat depressing this time of year, though. Our summer home is a little up the road in Ocean Park, WA.) While you're there try to visit the Maritime Museum in Astoria, OR - it's really something to see...
