Swim : kicking with straight legs
I've coined 2018 "year of the kick" because I'm done pulling my guts out and want to get that full body flow.

Also the club coach commented I was kicking with bent legs. I honestly thought they were straight? it's not like I'm taking these big diggers with my knees. But I actually was. Which kinda explains why the harder I kicked, the slower I seemed to go!

But in the case of "kick-wars" where I fought vs my son stationary, my kick was quite propulsive. It just created a ton of drag!

At the 50M pool tonight, I watched master's practice and it's easy to spot the experienced swimmers. They skate from one long side edge (body line hand to toe), quickly flipping to the other edge. It's quite striking and moving at a good tempo /effort. Contrast to a novice, employing short levers and rapid movements = going nowhere fast.

OK - as suspected the fundamental takeaway here is a straight leg kick. So that was my focus. It took about 20 mins but I started to get used to keeping the leg locked straight and working like a pair of scissors. Really weird but then here's the gravy - low drag. So much more efficient. After maybe 200-300M of this I did a timed 50 and I thought I did alright considering. I got it done in 75 sec @ tempo staying in form.
