Strava "porn" or "sex ads"?
I've been on Strava for several years now and basically have a circle of about 100 or so friends sharing comments and kudos. Almost all of them are folks that I've swam with, biked with or run with at one point or another. Every once in awhile I'll see a kudo from someone I don't know but it's usually after doing a race and they were a fellow racer.

However, over the last month or two I've started noticing kudos in some of my normal workouts (for example an easy 9 mile run this morning) from names I don't recognize and with a provocative profile picture. If I click through to the person's profile they have one or two past activities all with another provocative picture that contains a link that reads something like "click here for a good time." Seems like the profile remains active for 30 minutes to an hour before presumably being pulled down by Strava.

Has anyone noticed these lately?

Yes, noticed the same thing since Strava hit the main stream media about the global heat map debacle.

a friend got one yesterday and sent me a message. I found the account, but there is no way to actually report it, but you can flag the pictures. I did that so maybe with common sense they will notice its a solicitation?

You can block the user and it disappears from your Kudos list. I don’t want people thinking I’m interested in that sort of thing. Have had three or four in the last two weeks.

I was just wondering earlier today if it was only me. Glad to see it's not.

Starting Friday, I've been getting one or two per activity posted. I thought I had been flagged to be spammed or something.

Strava needs to implement either a minimum account time or a minimum amount of time worked out with GPS associated before kudos can be given. As is, these accounts just create a manual workout upload and delete it before going on their spam tirade.

Glad to see it's not just me. To think I almost didn't post this in anticipation of the juvenile-type response given the subject matter.

Not me but a friend did send me a text the other day asking me if I'd ever had it happen... he said it happened to him.

Apparently it's a thing but havent had it personally happen to me.

I thought about posting about this when I saw one this morning. I was just hoping I was lucky and it was real.....oh well. I guess my incredibly mundane runs, bikes, and swims don't drive the women crazy after all.

I was a bit disappointed that I didn't have any kudos-sex-spam but I just looked my notification bell and I had some as well.

I reported my requests the other day. Here's the email response:

Hello John‍,

Thank you for writing in and bringing this to our attention, and we apologize for the issue with spam. Our team is aware of the profile, and working hard to resolve the situation and prevent future spam. This profile should be removed very shortly, and any kudos they gave will also be deleted.

If you would like to require approval for future follower requests, you can read about adjusting that profile setting here: https://support.strava.com/...s/articles/216918777

If you want to remove a Strava user that is currently following you:

  • Go to your list of followers, which you can access from the 'Following Me' tab on your profile page
  • Find the follower that you'd like to remove
  • On the website - click on the gear icon next to their name and select "Remove Follower"
  • On the App (Mobile) - click on Followers > then swipe left on the athlete profile and then "remove".

If you want to block an athlete:

  • Website: Log in to the Strava website > Go to that athlete's Profile page > Click the "gear" icon and select "Block Athlete".
  • Mobile app: Go to that athlete's Profile page > Click the ... on the top right > Block

Regards,
Erik

I am shocked -SHOCKED- that a male-dominated web service would be targeted by porn ad bots. I mean, what's next? Spam for performance enhancing drugs and T replacement on athletics-focused sites?

Happened to me, happened to a friend of mine. Strava took the user down pretty quickly without any action on my part.

I'm new to Strava and just got a kudos on my Sunday ride from someone I don't know, but it appears that he is an actual person who rides bikes. He doesn't live in my immediate area and was not riding at the same place as me on Sunday. Additionally, while a good ride for me, it was certainly not "kudos" worthy. Is this common to get "kudos" from random people?

After reading this thread, I clicked on the bell notification and saw a female bot had also given me a kudos, but I never got any notification from her and it seems that her profile has been deleted. Damn.

It's something Strava does to build out your network - have people kudo random other people, in the hope you check each other out and hit it off. I've 'met' a number of pretty cool people that way. When I first got a kudo from a dude from Saudi Arabia that was a bit confusing though....

Are you in any clubs on Strava? Most of the strangers that have kudoed me have been from a club I'm also a member of, or friends of people I follow and/or who follow me. I've gotten a few out of the blue, most of which appear to be innocuous, but a couple which are obvious spam accounts using sexy pics to fish for victims. I got my first Sexbot kudo a few weeks ago. I just put them on my block list, and go on.
