Shorter cranks an cleat adapters impact on fit
Quote | Reply
I have a new bike.
I changed crank length from 172.5 to 165 and I like to set my cleats 24 mm further back using these.

Any ballpark ideas on changes to seat height and fore aft versus my previous setup?

A shorter crank means you raise your saddle by the difference in length.

I didn't look at the cleat position.

Adjust 1 thing at a time. Raise saddle for the cranks. If you moved your cleats back then you obviously need to move your seat forward not only to compensate for the seat going up in height but for the changing cleat positions and then don't forget to factor in the thickness of the cleat adapter.

I am doing that.
Will add cleat adapter later.

Any rule of thumb as a starting base when moving cleats rearward?
Eg for every 10 mm rearward move seat down x mm and seat x mm forward.

Assuming your position is good as is....

Seatpost up 15mm, back 5-7.5mm for shorter cranks.

When you do the cleat adapters, saddle forward 24mm, up 2.5mm.

Why do you suggest the seat twice the difference in crank length higher?
