From time to time, if I drop my chain on my Cervelo P3 - happens a few times a year - if I keep pedaling at all, the chain gets dragged up in the bottom bracket area. As my season just recently concluded, I took my crank off to clean up and really inspect the area. As you can see, its scratched pretty bad, and there's even a bit of a gouge in that scraped up area.
Do you think this is just cosmetic or is more serious and in need of attention from someone that can repair the carbon. Also, how the hell can I stop dropping my chain? I get my bike maintained by my bike shop on the regular, but sometimes chains drop, right/wrong? I seem to drop it the most at the top of hills when I'm getting back into the big front ring. I'd say I dropped it 4-6 times total this year while training for 2 half and 1 full Ironman races.
I did just get some Muc-Off Bike Protection Tape that I will put over the area - but wanted to see if anyone here had strong opinions/suggestions on the matter. I appreciate any feedback.
