San Diego Training
Hey All,

Work has me in San Diego from the 13th - 22nd right downtown. I am planning on dragging my bike from sunny FL with me. I'm training for the FL Half and need to keep on it.

I found a place to swim called Pure Fitness w/ a masters group a couple miles down the road. I'm looking for bike routes. I figure I can run anywhere over there.

If you live in the area, or are knowledgable, lend a fellow triathlete some insight please.

Thanks

Bump.

Don't think our fellow triathletes in the west coast are awake yet. Safe travels, TR.

Until those San Diegians wake up, check this site out: http://efgh.com/bike/routes.htm

Not sure about bike routes from down town. Lots of good places to run, just head to towards the water, and run up and down the coast.

Probable the best know route is on 101 coast highway, north of downtown. Lots of bikers and nice big bike lanes. You can ride about 25 miles from Torrey Pines in La Jolla up to the base in Oceanside, makes a good 50 mile loop Pretty flat, and some sections have lots of signals/stop signs. Great scenery though, and normally the temp is perfect right along the coast

If you want something a little more challenging you'll have to head inland more.

For FL Half, I would think 101 route would work perfect. There are numerous group rides over there too, check out: http://www.triclubsandiego.org/ and http://www.sdbc.org/ to find some group rides.

Ask the conceirge how to get to Harbor Drive. Once you get there, go west and head toward Cabrillo Monument (ask the conceirge for directions too).

It's a good climb and you are rewarded with views of the city. This is the same route that the San Diego International Triathlon takes place on (www.kozenterprises.com). The race is the last weekend of June.

Other than that, riding in the downtown area is pretty tough. I agree with the other poster and find your way to the coast. You'll see a zillion other cyclists there on the weekend mornings.

Good luck!
