How else do you get information unless people tell you about themselves?

Age question: I'm 35, wow that number came along fast
income question: zero after fed tax, state tax, wife tax, kid tax (i pay them all happily)
I think this was the end of the actual post questions, to the party line:
I ride a Kuota K Factor and love it, smooth as glass
Run in adidas supernovas, the last pair seemed different, though, less cushiony
Got a set of 808's to race with this year
Like the idea of powercranks and wouldn't mind a set
flipturn yep
I'll shave anything for fun or a race
Did get an aero helmet although it probably won't make a bit of dif
ITBS yes, PF no
Extra demographic info: Other adrenalin issues I split with tri:
motorcycle riding at the track,
burn thru a new set of race tires in a day
going into the braking zone at 160mph+

My point was that the question wasn't asking for people to talk about them selves.

Anyway...it is good to see someone else that races motorcycles.

Hello Ttram and All,

Interesting thread and could provide excellent marketing data.

Married: 55 years, "It seems like yesterday Dear." 3 sons, several grandchildren, no great grandchildren yet.

Rides a Cervélo: Of course - P3C and will probably buy a P4C soon but like the neat integrated front brake on the Specialized.

Wears Asics: Nike ID 360 and Z Coil (Soft landing shoes for torn meniscus)

Compression socks: Wore them last race and liked them.

Torn between one piece or two depending on length of race: Whatever works, probably bike bib shorts with different bike and run jerseys.

Uses Zipps: 808’s with Pro race 3’s

Probably a wheelcover: Have one but don’t use it.

Definitely Powermeter: SRM V and thinking about SRM VI (Don’t need it but this is a fun hobby and gadgets are part of the mix .... which is also true for 90% of triathlon gear.)

Possibly powercranks: Tried them many years ago but time is in short supply and they took too much time switching.

Does flipturns: Nope – except in backstroke.

Shaves legs usually: Late bloomer – just started – wife ambivalent

Aero helmet: Yes for races.

Hair: Still there but white with 'speed burns' from traveling so fast. :)

Age: 75-79 About 1/2 of my age group (US white males nationwide) will be dead in 9.4 years. (triathletes probably slightly different data)

Income: Answer should probably be Line 22 Gross Income or Line 37 Adjusted Gross Income plus any offshore income, off the books income, blackmarket income, secret government payments, criminal income and so on.

Because these numbers are often in conflict with a person’s romantic image of themselves they are often shrouded in obfuscation. Also I think we give the numbers too much weight and it may have something to do with materialism in the modern age.

In my case as I dance around the question my answer is I have enough money to do most anything I want to do and I came by it the old fashioned ways ...... I worked for most of it ..... inherited some of it .... and didn't get any of it from criminal activities (that I can talk about). That is my story and I am sticking to it.

Occupation: Retired - curmudgeon in training

Cheers,

Neal

45 yo married w/ 2 kids
drive imports, didn't vote for Obama
Race on Scott Plasma , train on Tarmac and Stumpjumper
Have run in almost any shoe, lately Newtons
Compression socks
Aero Helmet
1 piece Tri suit, mix it up for X-terras
Shave legs, trim arms & chest
(with all the above I do not advertise race pictures to friends or acquaintances !! )
Zipps
Wheelcover
PowerTap
Garmin 305
Trainingpeaks WKO+to chew on above data
no powercranks
do flip turns from background of swimming

That is a lot of Tri toys...but I have taken a few years to build them all up. I figure I put maybe 3-5k a year into the sport
including travel and fees. That is not chump change...but it is less than what a lot of people spend on boats, horses, golf
fishing or many other diversions. I once heard a speaker at a conference total up his boat and fishing gear divided by # of fish
and it worked out to about $900 / Bass :-)

I often wonder what 25 year old me would have done with my current gear budget. I raced my first tri 20 years ago on a $500 REI
bike with basketball shoes because I couldn't afford bike shoes. I ran a 3:10 (strait) marathon then, so the motor was pretty good.
The sweet spot was probably somewhere in my 30's, but with young kids and the internet boom, I wasn't training & racing much.

" I take my gear out of my car and put my bike together. Tourists and locals are watching from sidewalk cafes. Non-racers. The emptiness of of their lives shocks me. "

I'm a 42 year old male.

I must not be ST approved since I don't ride a Cervelo, would buy Heds instead of Zipps but have Spinergy Stealths (although I do have a cover), have only run in Asics once in the past 20 years, always wear a 2-piece racing outfit, do flip turns and train old school without a power metre/cranks or HRM.

Compression socks? You've got to be kidding. If I was close to a podium at Kona and thought they might get me there I might consider them ..... otherwise the hassle of putting them on during the race and the fact that they look absolutely stupid will keep me "sockless" for the majority of my races.

I ride a Kestrel Talon and make $560000/year teaching high school mathematics (ok .... slight inflation of my income but some of the kids at school believe me when I tell them that is how much I make).

If the kids believe you make $560,000/year teaching high school mathematics, you need smarter kids.
