Running schedule - effectiveness of 2x a day?
I'm curious about opinions on breaking up runs in the 6 to 10 mile range into two parts - one at lunch and the other after work. Unfortunately, my schedule makes fitting in a 8 or 10 mile run after work difficult. However, I don't want to short-change myself either.

So, as it pertains to marathon training in general, what are your thoughts?

There was a female marathoner that was profiled in Runner's World a few months ago. She's won several of the Rock n Roll marathons, including the Country Music marathon in Nashville.

Her steady state runs are 3 x a day because she has children to care for. She runs 6 miles in the early morning before anyone rises, then 6 after lunch (before picking the kids up from school), then 6 in the evenings.

That's how she's able to get an 18 miler in on a weekday. Weekends are for the contiguous runs.

Seems to be working for her as she has won several marathons.

BTW, she's like 42 years old. Apparently, breaking up your runs can work.
