I’m riding the Oregon coast in a few weeks with three friends, looking for some local knowledge.
We have not decided which direction we are riding yet. It appears as if going north-to-south during the summer is advised, as the prevailing winds are from the north. But it looks like the prevailing winds switch in the fall to come out of the south. Any ideas on how soon that change happens? We would prefer to avoid 400mi of headwinds.
Our plan is to fly into and out of PDX. We will be traveling with our bikes. We would like to find a place to stash our bike boxes in Portland. I’m assuming there’s an LBS that would have room for a few bike boxes for the week…any recommendations? We will assemble the bikes ourselves, so I don’t think we need any wrenching done. But you never know how the bikes will travel. Or what I will forget.
We are bagging all week. Likely to get a hotel for a night in the middle to sleep in a real bed, do laundry, let things dry out, etc. but will otherwise be camping. It seems like we should be late enough in the season that we shouldn’t need to reserve camping ahead of time?
We have done several rides like this in the past - Washington state, GAP to DC, Minnesota, Katy Trail - so we have some experience with these kinds of rides, but looking for any advice anyone might have.
