Rear mount computer on Cervelo Qstn
Just got a rear wheel mounted Cateye Astrale which will be mounted on a Cervelo Dual. Normally, I'd run the wires down the downtube intertwined with the derailleur cables, but since they're internally routed, this won't work.

I'd like to avoid having big zip ties around the downtube, since they're unsightly.

Any elegant solutions?? Any photos to illustrate your point?

I have the exact same setup that you are describing. I bought eveything at inside out sports and they mounted the computer for me before i left with the bike. What they did is run both wires the cables to the downtube. They then ran the wires down the down tube on the downward side (side facing road) and put a long strip of black or could red if you can find some electical tape down almost the whole length of the dwontube to secure and protect the wires. This setup works really well and you can hardly see it. If you have more questions or this is too hard to understand let me know.

Interesting. I happen to have both red and black electrical tape. I'll see which one looks better.

Anecdotally, one would think putting it on the sharp (top) end would be best from an aerodynamic standpoint.

That's a good question I've been meaning to try to ask Gerard.

Oh Gerard...if you're running a computer wire along an aero section downtube, which is better: Along the leading edge of the foil or along the trailing edge? Does it even mattter?

Gerard? Little help?

Definitely along the trailing edge is better. The airflow is already disrupted at that point. If you put it on the leading edge then you'll most likely disrupt the airflow sooner thereby creating more pressure drag. You're also inducing more parasite drag by putting it on the leading edge.

yeah but it looks so much better on the leading edge---you cant see it.

I'm not so sure that's a "definite" conclusion. If the airflow is disrupted by the time it gets to the trailing edge, then the airfoil section is tapering off too fast. If that's the case, then it actually may be a benefit to "trip" the turbulence early so that the turbulent boundary layer doesn't grow too large...it actually ends up being lower drag. BUT, the Cervelo foil section is a good NACA section so it shouldn't separate before the trailing edge...having a wire taped there will screw up the trailing edge of the foil (not coming to a point) and be higher drag as well....

Now do you see why I'd like Gerard's opinion?

Actually, what I'd REALLY like to see is a way to feed the wire through the downtube like the shifter cables...now THAT would be cool.

Visit a sports/hockey store and pick up a roll of clear tape. It's wider than electrical tape too. You can also use this to protect your frame in key spots and.

Here's the reply I got from cervelo concerning this question:

"I run the cables facing the road, right down the bottom center of the
down tube. This way it will not be vary visible, and keeps a clean line.
As far as aerodynamics, computer cable are not going to effect it is any
way, unless you are running a desktop! (in that case, mount the CPU
behind the seat!) Anyways....

Mount the cables bottom center of the down tube using a clear hockey
tape, or electrical tape. Clear hockey tape works best because is looks
better and is tougher and stickier then electrical tape, but both work
just fine!"

So I'm gonna go out and get some clear hockey tape, as GB recommended.
