In my mind, triathlon is all about personal improvement and incremental gains. Being in uncomfortable circumstances and learning to adapt.
Competing against others is secondary.
It also opens your mind to the capabilities of others which is humbling and provides examples to learn from.

This said, of the candidates out there, who would be the best triathlete?

Interesting to think about.

Tulsi Gabbard

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tulsi_Gabbard

“Tulsi Gabbard (/ˈtʌlsi ˈɡæbərd/; born April 12, 1981) is an American politician and Hawaii Army National Guard major who serves as the U.S. Representative for Hawaii's 2nd congressional district. Elected in 2012, she is the first Hindu member of Congress and the first Samoan-American voting member of Congress.[1][2][3]

In 2002, Gabbard was elected to the Hawaii House of Representatives.[4] Gabbard served in a field medical unit of the Hawaii Army National Guard in Iraq from 2004 to 2005 and was deployed to Kuwait from 2008 to 2009 as Army Military Police platoon leader.”

Just trying to imagine how the Secret Service would cope with this.

Not just a few kayakers to accompany the swim, but a couple of Coast Guard cutters. And anyone who kicks the president in a mass start swim leg gets shot on sight.

And how far apart are the black SUV's to not be drafting?

I think the closest is that Dubya was a keen MTBer??

I wonder if all the folks on the Golf forums are super excited to have Trump as part of their tribe.

One of the Thai Princesses is a cyclist and sometimes triathlete. She once did a race held by a friend of mine which included a 5k swim. The Thai Royal Navy sent three warships and a Thai Navy Seal Team to supervise.

Not interested in being ruled....
What does this mean? Are you drawing a distinction between governance and rule?
Surely in a democratic system (let's pretend the US is a democracy), the purpose of the government is to fairly govern communal systems on behalf of, and with the permission of, the majority of the population, not to enforce it's own will. Do you have a problem with that form of "rule"? What alternative do you propose?
As for those needing a ruler not being competent to choose one, that's just imbecilic nonsense, and a straw man.

She posts some of her workouts on Twitter. She definitely could be competitive in triathlon if she wanted to. As a Hawaiian it's likely that she swims and she without a doubt did some long runs in the Army.

In my mind, triathlon is all about personal improvement and incremental gains. Being in uncomfortable circumstances and learning to adapt.
Competing against others is secondary.
It also opens your mind to the capabilities of others which is humbling and provides examples to learn from.

Just when I thought our president couldn't be a bigger douche...If he showed up to a local sprint tri in a $500 fluoro Wattie Kit and matching compression socks on a $12,000 P5X I'd be like smdh...

No

A candidate might run on those properties & principles - being totally opposite from what we're used to seeing from a candidate - but should they actually get elected, all that would go out the window once they enter the machine of The Presidency [especially with everything as broken as it is now]

I assume you know that both of Arizona's senators are Kona finishers? Which of them - Sinema or McSally - is more likely to become the U.S. president? :) I'll go with Sinema, because she is 10 years younger than McSally.

IMO, none of these things are exclusive to triathlon. People learn from a lifetime of experiences. It can be through athletics, education, military, work, community, etc.

every public appearance:

I'd like to begin this (press conference / state of the nation address / Speech to the General Assembly etc) by noting that I am a triathlete.

Quite a few marathon runners have been POTUS or at least ran. George W Bush and Al Gore have both done marathons, with fairly respectable times, IIRC. There was a link somewhere that had a list of celebrities and politicians who had completed some impressive athletic events.

Since GWB ran a decent full marathon, and has become a fairly competent MTB rider in retirement, I guess I'd put him at the head of the pack as far as finishing a triathlon. Buttigieg is about the only contemporary candidate (although he's now dropped out) who I'd even put money on finishing a Sprint tri, but no idea if he is involved in fitness. Tulsi, also dropped out, would seem to have the mental toughness and athleticism (due to her military service), but no idea if she keeps up with it.

I don't see many of the others being able to finish...mostly due to age, but also the appearance of overall lack of fitness.

Do you think that there are other things in life that do the same things??????

If the next POTUS was a triathlete....which I could care less.....I don't want them to even think about it because he/she should be too busy running the country and keeping my family safe.

If Mitt Romney was a triathlete in his prime, I bet he'd be a cycling specialist with the perfect aero position, just like the perfect scores he got on his SATs and his degrees with honors at HLS and HBS. He would be the meticulous bike mechanic, ensuring his power and aero pose produce optimal speeds.

If he ran without a hat on in the run, his hair would probably be perfect too, that's just how he rolls.

Gary Johnson (2016 Libertarian candidate) was/is a pretty serious endurance athlete. This is from wiki so I can't confirm that he has done the 7 summits, but I did look up his sub 11 IM time and it is legit.

Johnson lives in Taos, New Mexico,[176][177] in a home he built himself.[67] He is an avid triathlete who bikes extensively. During his term in office, he competed in several triathlons, marathons and bike races. He competed three times (1993, 1997, 1999) as a celebrity invitee at the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii, registering his best time for the 2.4-mile (3.9 km) swim, 112-mile (180 km) bike ride, and 26.2-mile (42.2 km) marathon run in 1999 with 10 hours, 39 minutes, and 16 seconds.[178][179] He once ran 100 miles (160 km) in 30 consecutive hours in the Rocky Mountains.[24] On May 30, 2003, he reached the summit of Mount Everest[180] "despite toes blackened with frostbite."[30] He has climbed all of the Seven Summits: Mount Everest, Mount Elbrus, Denali, Mount Kilimanjaro, Aconcagua, Mount Vinson, and Carstensz Pyramid—the tallest peaks in Asia, Europe, North America, Africa, South America, Antarctica, and Australia respectively.[181] He completed the Bataan Memorial Death March at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, in which participants traverse a 26.2 mi (42.2 km) course through the desert, many of them in combat boots and wearing 35-pound (16 kg) packs.[182]
