Yeah. Triathlon doesnÂ’t have enough wealthy people actively working to drive a wedge between the financial haves and have nots. No peasants on the pier!

Putting the "ahem" Military Service angle aside, and taking his politics out of the picture, that 4:12 half IM time that the Sheikh posted is pretty darn studly however you cut it for an age grouper (OK, he's probably got the ultimate pro athlete lifestyle minus the sponsorship hassles/hustling)....that time is faster than the half IM PB of most of us on this forum (by the way, he beat my PB by 2 min.....when I could actually move OK LOL drive by brag, I could not help having my former self inserted in the result behind the Sheikh).

I think that 2:13 bike split needs to be taken with a grain or two (billion) of salt.

This. Riding 40kph on the flats with a full motorcade escort takes about 160 Watts.

Anyway, big news is Naeth is back racing. 5th place. She's been injured for what 2 years? She still can't swim though.

Did Haug just throw down a 1:17 run? Damn.

Foot fracture that got infected and required IV antibiotics and hospital stay. She's been racing aquabike and ITTs over the past year. She wasn't saying anything publically but implication is that she couldn't run with that foot.

Eric I think she is saying that we need more rich people who are athletes to pour money into the sport. How people got rich and there associated politics is a different discussion. It is possible to discuss the sport athletically or the business side of it without the politics around it. Think LA Olympics, All Blacks vs South Africa in apartheid days, Moscow Olympics. The list of bad politics and sport is endless. I am not saying the bad guys are off the hook but WTC is already taking money from Bahrain and here in North America we are not saints with our own Indigenous populations so it's all degrees of bad guys locally who are also doing sport.

As for the Prince drafting g his motorcade in response to Kiley I was not aware of that. Then I guess the 4:12 may as well be a 4:30

WADA ya think the chances are he gets tested in Kona? Would anyone dare test him in his own country? HELL NO! Would he stand a chance getting a slot in 30-34 at any full Ironman? HELL NO. Will they allow his motorcade in Kona? I hope not. He seems like the ultimate douche canoe.

Ok, end rant.

Not in Bahrain, apparently. In any other race that would be a DQ

In Dubai last year he had 2-3 escalades full of his hangers on and security driving next to him on the freeway out from jumeirah to the furthest point out and back

All hanging out the windows and chatting to him..........he may havr had the best draft on the course..........he is still pretty quick though

Regarding the Prince. I've had a chance to meet him a few times and have a short chat. Raced twice (Dubai and Bahrain). He seems like an ok dude. The thing is that he absolutely doesn't look like someone who can do 4h1x. Look at the rest of the under 4:30 guys. They are a beasts. Lean and mean. Pure muscles. There is no chance that someone with that build and body type with no single visible muscle can bike and run that fast. If I am wrong, I owe him my deepest apologies and admiring

Where exactly did you say anything about his skin color and country of origin? You wrote about "supports our sport and puts his muscle where his money is"; how are we supposed to know that what you meant was "at least he's not just yet another young, snarky, white American male"?

The point is, ladies and gentleman, that speed, for lack of a better word, is good. Speed is right, Speed works. Speed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit.

I have seen some pics now (haven´t seen the race) posted in a german forum. She used it more than once. She cheated, didn´t she? I wonder why nobody really cares about that. Anne Haug probably would have chased her down and won the race.

Guys....can we stop piling on Sally. Give here the benefit of the doubt. She's been posting on here for a while and not a complete idiot. Obviously she is not stating that she wants to support dictators who may be human rights violators. At least in my mind she's made the intellectual separation of bad guy rich gun in one aspect of his life from good guy rich guy in the sporting part of his life. It is possible to detest one aspect of a person while simultaneously being agreeable with the other one. It's like when my wife pulls out the full blown "you're a complete fuck up" on me. I really don't wish that on my worst enemy. But I can co exist with the other good aspects. In any case she has clarified her position (I actually did not realize there was a further layer of clarification which she has also provided).....with the same skin color as the prince, I'd say I trend more to the values of the young snarky white American male anyway.

All of that aside, every sport is taking a boatload of money from oil rich gulf nations. Have a look at pro soccer in Euro or Formula 1 racing as your prime examples.....but it's just money circling around. We import oil from them, to drive around to our swim workouts and bike workouts, and then we take money back from them to watch our Formula 1, Tennis and triathlon. If you're going to pile onto this one through sport, better not go to the gas pump either. WTC already let that train leave the station with a major 70.3 in Bahrain and maybe by exporting some of our culture back to our region we collectively have a positive impact on social issues via sport.

The Prince drafting the motorcade, and going to Kona via that means, well let's have a completely different intellectual discussion on that.

Nasser is lean and mean. He looks like every other fast triathlete to me. He threw down a 9-something at Ironman Florida in his first IM. I think you're confusing Nasser with his pudgy brother, Khalid, who also races (more slowly).

Actually, I believe his first Ironman was Florida in 2013. He went 10:27:37. I could be wrong but I do not think he has ever broken 10 hours, the closest being Ironman Cairns in 2015 (10:05:27)

Khalid is definitely bigger. However, you can see just how "lean and mean" Nasser is by fast forwarding to 3:01:00 in the Ironman coverage.

The money in the Persian Gulf area is unbelievable.

Agreed that many sports are tapping into this - F1/F2, FIFA(soccer), Cycling etc . . triathlon is part of a long list.

I have mixed feelings about it all.

It's almost laughable. When Qatar was bidding for the 2022 Soccer World Cup it was brought up, that it could be 40C in Qatar for games - is this the best conditions to play soccer in? The Qatari's countered that ALL the stadiums that they would build would be completely air conditioned! This is the totally outlandish, and completely unsustainable things they do in the region - and they think nothing of it! Everything is built with oil-money and credit. One shudders to think what would happen if the oil stops flowing.

The carbon foot-print of cities in the region like Dubai, are upwards of 5 to 10X greater per-capita than us in North America - we already are the worse for that!

I think more and more of the younger generation of Middle Eastern royals understands this. In case you were not aware Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman recently announced a new $500 billion mega-city to help reduce Saudi's dependence on oil exports: https://www.cnbc.com/...m-business-city.html. A good primer on Salman was put together by Frank Gardiner of the BBC: http://www.bbc.com/...-mohammed-bin-salman
