Race belts never match race numbers

Does anyone here know why the holes on the race numbers never are the same width of race belt snaps? Unless I cut additional holes to match the snaps, they never seem to snap all that securely.

They assume that the belt is going to stretch, so if you put the holes on the number on the 2 snaps the race number is arced while sitting on the floor, then went you put it on, its flat....

ymmv...

I think it's because of the "stretch" factor when worn with the proper tension. As it stretches the pins are farther apart.

That's why I have race belts that have the lace locks instead of snaps...
Like this

Works on every spacing of race number holes I've encountered so far.

I've had luck with my race belt from Zoot like this one: http://www.runoutlet.com/...3j1LMCFc5cMgodCnUAVw and recently just got this from DeSoto for my wife and kids: http://www.runoutlet.com/...lt-32247/?color=9325

Both have a wide range to adjust to any size race number. The zoot is adjustable with the stretch cord things. The Desoto's clips can slide back and forth to accomodate race bibs and the clips clamp down on the race bib so it doesn't matter what size the holes are.

You don't need the holes to match up with the button-type race belts. You have to really push down on the buttons, but you can get them to hold even with the race bib number wedged in there. I've sometimes had to stand on the button, but it works really well (at least for me.)

I've never been able to actually put the button where the hole was. Never.

+1
I don't cinch the locks down - leaving about 1/2 inch of lace for the holes to ride on.

That would be a lot of stretch, at least for the belts I have, they aren't even close. Something so simple that I just wondered why they are never close. Will have to look for one of these adjustable ones.

I hate it too. It's exactly the same as the hot dog/ hot dog bun conspiracy. You'd think they should match, yet they don't/

I bring a piece of elastic to races, thread it through the holes and tie it in a loop, slip it on and I'm ready to go, cost me about .12

Great idea! Think I'll grab one & just keep in my gear bag.

2 Safety pins easily attach a race bib to my race belt. Sometimes it's best not to overthink stuff.

Check out the new T1 belts, has loops that slide to match any number plus a magnet that closes instead of a buckle, super fast.

Best race belt I have used. http://t1belt.com/ Takes care of the hole problems as they are adjustable, and the magnet is great.

Cord/lock assembly rotted off years ago. Now I just use a couple of safety pins.
