What sunscreen product is good for a race? Full Ironman.

I'm a fan of Kinesys. It's a spray, but spray it into your hands and then rub it on for better coverage. It's light and doesn't impede sweating or clog pores, but doesn't sweat/wash off.

As with all suncreens, they work best on clean skin so they can sink in. Apply some after you get out of the shower, and then again when setting up before the race; it's a long day.


The best "sunscreen" is a top that gives you shoulder coverage on the bike (PI Octane, De Soto CoolWings, etc.). Personally I use an UnderArmour long sleeve top for the bike (and a sleeveless for the run). They are UPF 50+; that plus good sunscreen = no "angel wings".

For IM, volunteers will typically be available to slather some on for you a you exit the transitions. One less thing to think about.
