Power Tap - Bontrager wheel
Hello, thinking of selling the race wheels for a Power Tap?

I was looking at the Bontager Power Tap wheel.
http://www.bontrager.com/roadwheels/detail.asp?id=167&pt=10

It looks like a good option as the wheels are aero and it comes with a Power Tap system.

I really know nothing about Power Tap, does this look like a good wheel to use for training and Ironman racing with Power?

Also would this be good for RACING?

Thanks in advance,

Trevor

Last time I checked, Bontrager was sold out.

You can build your own race wheel for less: http://www.competitivecyclist.com/...EGORY.ID=44&MODE=

If I were going to build up a powertap wheel for training/racing right now I would probably go with the Powertap SL and have it built around an aero rim, you could have the powertap done around a Zipp 404 clincher rim and have a fairly light aero wheel.

What someone really needs to do is to put the powertap innards into a Zipp dimpled disc, now that would be sweet!

It would cost too much, Zipp would not sell very many to justify it. Now if Renn could do it, then he could create a sub $2000 disc. Zipp's would be $3000+

I have a bontrager aero / powertap pro combination - and have had it for about a year. I like it a lot for training indoors (to keep power up while getting bored on the trainer) as well as for doing intervals outside. I raced on mine all last year and only put on a rear race wheel for a couple big races. I raced road races, crits, and a couple triathlons on it. the data is great to see.

i think there are still a few at Trek - any trek dealer can look them up and order you one. The powertap SL is lighter (about 160 grms i think) but can't be laced into a bontrager aero rim. The SL - Zipp combination is probably the best and lightest you are going to get, but I would expect it to be a couple hundred bucks more then the Pro / Bontrager combination.

I will race on the wheel are season long for sure - and use it for up to 1/2 IM races.

For the record, Powertap SL is now an upgrade uption to our entire line of wheels except for the disc, but it can be had in the 202-808 series wheels in both clincher and tubular options as a standard product from your local bike shop.

Trek has Xlite and Xlite aero in stock. To be exact, there are about 11 of each.

As far as I know it's alwasy been an upgrade option, hasn't it? You just order a Zipp hoop and lace a Powertap hub to it, no? What's the difference now? I'm not trying to be sarcastic, just wondering as I'm in the market as well.

I do not think that Zipp did it at the factory, but you could probably build your own this way.

The Powertap SL/303 set up is very nice, would look great on my E5! (but that's some cash there)
