Doesn't seem to be the case for me. For example, at the moment I'm seeing ads for Vision wheels - which I've never searched for. Interestingly, there is a front page article on some new Vision wheels - which I have't read.

That's weird. I'm not seeing many ads for pantyhose and luchador masks.

There are typically two types of ads: those sold in-house (typically tri-related), and those where you just allow an ad network (like Google) to show whatever they can get the best yield for (based on a combo of site relevance, behavioral profiling, etc.). The Trump ad is an example of the latter. Most platforms allow the publisher (i.e. Slowtwitch) to exclude certain individual advertisers, or classes of advertisers (ex. political ads...or sporting goods ads [so they couldn't backdoor around the ad sales team]).

we have an ad network for remnant space. there is an ironclad prohibition against political ads. i've pulled the network off our site until they fix this. big nono. right up there with porn and gambling. no can do here. and, yeah, if we WERE going to allow political campaigns, i can pretty much tell you that would not be one we'd allow.

I always get that ad when I go on Worldometer to see the latest coronavirus case count. Seems like odd ad placement to me...

At least for me....Dan, or perhaps his advertisers, will be distraught to learn I never notice the ads. Internet has so many it’s all white noise now. It doesn’t draw my attention at all.

most of our revenue comes from sources other than ads. i'm not that far away from removing all ads entirely. however, for our partners who want to run ads, i'm currently appreciative that they do.
