It's possible.. we don't work with them directly, so I have no first hand knowledge of the situation, but also remember that providing tire pressure misinformation to the media is a popular pastime with both mechanics and riders in our beautiful sport... and in some cases the mechanics and teams tell the riders what they want to hear when they have strongly held beliefs to the contrary, which is something I've done on numerous occasions!!
Having said all that, remember that pros at this level will typically need additional pressure as a result of their additional speed to avoid pinch flats, so something you or I hit at 22mph and bottom out the rim will be a guaranteed failure when they hit it at 26mph.. this is why the 30 and 32mm tires at Roubaix is so powerful.. you can run pressures that are faster AND more comfortable at the same or slightly reduced pinch flat/wheel damage risk.
