"An ugly, red scratch was etched along the neck of the winner of the men's race. Edith Van Dijk of the Netherlands earned a fat lip to go along with her bronze medal. The five-kilometre open water race at the world aquatic championships is a test of strength and endurance. It's also a battle ground. "
Sara McLarty, currently on USAT's National Select Resident Team, finished 4th in the women's 5K race in 55:56, and will also be competing in the women's 10K race. It would be interesting to see what her time for 2.4 would be if she ended up in long course triathlon down the road.
