Old School Training
Can anyone give me any numbers on how much Molina, Ken Glah, Scott Tinley, Hellriegal, Zack, or any of those guys used to train....possibly weekly totals for:

a big base week...

a typical week leading to an ironman...

a big bike week...

Anything......Any training stories, (with numbers)

Basically I want to know because I am going to go out and do whatever you tell me they were doing.

Why don't you shoot them an email? For example, send some email to Scott Molina, I'm sure he'll reply. Tell him I sent you.

(Sorry skid, but you were complaining that I was too tame these days)

Hang on...how did Hellriegel get thrown in as old school. He only arrived "on the scene" at 1995 in Kona, although one might argue that he was already there with a 6th place at ITU World's in 1992 (yup, all the Ironman studs had short course speeeeeeed).

Old school ends in 1990. After that , the rest of the guys are newcomers. And those in the 2000's are just recycling what the best of the first two decades came up with through trial and error and even with all the technology they can't touch the old school studs at short or long course:-)

As for hours and distances....we need Skid to pipe in, but if you follow some of the recent Epic Camps, you get a flavour for what was going on.

I have done some weeks close to 50 hours....which were somewhat epic camp emulations...but the New School thinking is to only do this for a week or two....I have a hunch that back in the day that some of these guys put big weeks in like this regularly....I would like to see a training log of one of those guys leading up to one of their better IM performances...All I wanna know is week after week volume

I have only really been doing triathlon for 4 years...so Hellriegal seems old school to me, but I guess he isn't really old school

BZ,

I would agree with Paulo, Just find out what their email's are and ask them. You can email me too if you want to know what kind of training hours I'm putting in right now on my "Campus Eddie" I think I might put some aerobars on em tomorrow.

Holy shit man, maybe i shouldn't train with you after all!

Seriously though, if i had the time I would probably attempt something similar. Not really for any other reason that to see how my body would react. (i'm thinking some sort of whimper)
