It's nice to see him win, he's been around for a looong time :-) And he was the favorite for this race.

yep...he was scared...he emailed two days ago and was worried because he was the favorite for many...
he took his first top 10 in Kona...in 1993...when he was 22.

That's what I meant, it's hard going into a race as the favorite and he held it together. The pressure was on him and he delivered, well done!

It is clear one can't make much of the times the IM live updates are posted. His win giving his winning time of 8:19 had a posting time of 8:15. Still, looks like he backed off some on the run when it was no longer necessary to go hard.

Congratulations to Olaf. He will be in the hunt in Kona and he doesn't have to worry about being the favorite there.

not sure if he was 7' behind Galindez at km32 or was it further...he may be a bit short to grab 3rd.

he will go to IM Austria before...looking at a fast time (not that 8h19' is slow...)

Do you mean he went to this one to run conservative, just to qualify?

no, he went to Brazil to win. But he is looking at winning AND setting a fast time in Austria (what he started last year and couldn't finish with the achille tendon problem...think it is going to be advertised soon)
