Odd Tubeless Issue
A few months ago I bought a Lauf Seigla, which came with ethirteen xcx race carbon wheels. The wheels were taped for tubeless, but set up with tubes. I just got around to converting them to tubeless. After I inserted the valve stems and seated the tires, I injected sealant through the valves, closed the valves, and started rotating and shaking the wheels. As I shook the wheels, sealant bubbled out of nearly every spoke hole. The tires deflated fairly quickly. I figured it was a bad tape job and I'd need to redo it. However, I reinflated the tires and shook the wheels a few more times and eventually all of the leaks stopped. They are now holding air. I thought leaking through spoke holes almost always meant bad tape. Is there something else going on here? I'm trying to figure out if I'm good to go or if I need to retape.

I've not had that problem, but it suggests a tape problem but maybe could only just be at one point (as the air could get into the hollow chamber in the rim at a songle point then will comee out of all the nipple holes equally. The sealant has probably now sealed that one point.

I'd leave it as is if it stays inflated.

Typically when this happens the way you describe it, the tape was slightly damaged around the valve hole when it was used with a tube. You're probably good to go, but I'd change the tape next time you have the tire off, or if you'll be doing any riding in remote areas where you really don't want to have any increased risk of flats.

*if this wasn't a carbon rim, the other likely cause would be a leak at the rim seam, where the two ends of the extrusion meet.

I'd deflate it completely, then re-inflate it to 20PSI over target pressure, then *then* leave it if it survives that test.

Rim tape is most likely damaged around the valve hole and once sealant dries in there it's good to go. This happens when a tubeless tape job is used for a tube for an extended period of time.

It could also be ripped somewhere else, but the likely culprit is the valve hole.
