Canyon just posted that Patrick Lange is in town for Oceanside 70.3. It wasn’t clear if he was racing.
I know he is not in the list, but I doubt they tell him he couldn’t race if that is his intention.

Disagree. Ryf hasn’t been remotely challenged in years.

Not unless you count jellyfish last year in Kona.

Next races on the schedule: none at the moment

I’m predicting Kanute to win.

We actually just posted his Speedmax CF SLX is currently in our showroom on display and will be here through 70.3 Oceanside. It's fast and all.... but it won't race by itself against Lionel. And it will give a terrible interview. ;-)

Lionel all the way. Just liked Frodo had something to prove the season following his Kona walk; now it's the Colonel's turn to at redemption and he's going to dominate -- despite who is or isn't at the start line. LS will have his best year to date. You heard it here on Slowtwitch mssg board forum first! LoL!!!

Overheard Lionel today at pool saying he ran 150k last week and was in need of cane, jokingly.

I'm going with Lagerstrom & Ryf

I like Lagerstrom, but how would it play out? Maybe he runs better than Kanute, maybe, but Kanute seems like the better swimmer and biker. Right?

LS rides and runs better than both of them.

If they work together on the swim and ride, they may be able to keep him away. I think you give the edge to kanute in that case as he’s competed very well and proven himself at 70.3 worlds.

Should be fun regardless.

Eric swam 22:24 last year. Pretty much came out right in front with Jan. He ran 1:13 low. Not sure what Ben normally bikes, but not gonna swim much faster then that.

Anyone know if the race will be streamed on FB Now or any other platform?

I know FB is streaming African Champs that weekend. Usually, FB chooses IM races to cover, and then will cover the 70.3 WC's.

If it plays out like last year, it's the bike that's going to be Lagerstrom's downfall. He gave up 6 minutes to the leaders. I would think Kanute's run speed would be similar to Lagerstrom. So my podium would be Sanders, Reed, then Kanute.

I’m a huge fan of Sanders. I hope he wins. Ironman races this year will be more interestering if he wins.

Jay,

I will be there. Looking forward to watching the racing. Keep in mind this is the first race of the season for many - so a bit a rust-buster. Will it tell us something - yes, but It's a long season and being fit now, and crushing it now, may not be the best strategy in you want to be doing the same in Early Sept (70.3 World Championships) or early Oct (IM World Championships). Long way to go!

What does Canyon have planned?

Not bringing my bike - was thinking there would be limited time to ride.

certainly more accomplished athletes than the Men's race...

Ironically 30+ posts in and no one has mentioned the most likely winner if we are using recent history as the predictor.

?? On the men's side? Bowden?

Hopefully you mean men's side in the latter comment because barring bike mishap, Ryf is not going to have any issue with Holly

Hey Steve, with racing being the centerpiece and athletes being pretty keyed up, we're keeping it pretty chill at Canyon.Home.

That said, we are inviting everyone in town for the race to come see the one and only Canyon.Home USA, the one spot to see our bikes outside Germany! We'll have quite a few things on display worth checking out, like Patrick Lange's and Jan Frodeno's Kona bikes, a few other provenance bikes, and our range of Speedmax bikes in stock. We've also got a range of Speedmax CF models on hand available to test ride.

Swag? Yep! Anyone can come see me at the Canyon booth at the Ironman expo to collect a card. With that card, we'll have some swag we'll be giving out to those lucky few (while supplies last) at our Canyon.Home showroom, which is just a few minutes drive down I-5 from the expo.

That's what we've got on... Steve, will look forward to catching up with you (and erryone else!)

-Jay
