Here is the answer to those asking about the helmet rules in Kona:

Helmet Rule Change October 10th, 2006 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Aloha Athletes -

At the request of World Triathlon Corporation it has been approved today by USA Triathlon that Section 3.3 of the 2006 Edition of ITU’s Competitive Rules on helmets is accepted at the 2006 Ford Ironman World Championship.

This rule differs from what has been posted in the 2006 Ford Ironman World Championship Contestant Information Guide.

The rule is as follows:

E.3.3 Helmets

a) Helmets must be approved by a national accredited testing authority recognised by a NF that is an affiliate of the ITU;
b) An alteration to any part of the helmet including the chin strap, or the omission of any part of the helmet, including an outer cloth cover, is prohibited.

We look forward to seeing you in Kona – Aloha!
