Name that tune....here's the opening lyrics...
I will think happy thoughts about the first person who can answer all 5 correctly (a pitiful reward):
  1. "There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold..."
  2. "Is this the real life..."
  3. "Must be getting early, clocks are running late..."
  4. "Busted flat in baton rouge, waiting for a train..."
  5. "A modern-day warrior
    Mean mean stride..."

I've got 1. and 4. for sure, but since I don't have the others...I won't list the titles. The group from 1. may also be described as a blimp that is definitely not Aluminum. 4. was made popular by a Texan from the Beaumont/Port Arthur area of Texas and played at Threadgills in Austin, TX. It is written, however, by one of the Highwaymen who's initials are KK. 5. just came to me and the group might be described as 'in a hurry'. I'm close on 2., but don't have it yet.

Actually, I believe Bobby McGee was a Kris Kristofferson song. Although Janis did one of the best versions of it. I do believe in spirit of the contest all the others were sung and written by the the listed preformers. .25 deduction for not knowing that. As you could also say that Bobby Mcgee was a Grateful Dead song as they often used it on tour. Yes I did have a misspent youth, that has been a long strange trip. Aloha G

Right. I think he actually wrote it with the intention that she'd sing it, but I could be wrong.

I hope so, otherwise I think Mr. Kristofferson may have had some gender identification problems.

I just googled the original Kris Kristofferson lyrics. Perhaps its a man singing about a woman.

Busted flat in baton rouge, headin’ for the trains,
Feelin’ nearly faded as my jeans.
Bobby thumbed a diesel down just before it rained,
Took us all the way to new orleans.
Took my harpoon out of my dirty red bandana
And was blowin’ sad while bobby sang the blues,
With them windshield wipers slappin’ time and
Bobby clappin’ hands we finally sang up every song
That driver knew.

Freedom’s just another word for nothin’ left to lose,
And nothin’ ain’t worth nothin’ but it’s free,
Feelin’ good was easy, lord, when bobby sang the blues,
And buddy, that was good enough for me,
Good enough for me and my bobby mcgee.

From the coalmines of kentucky to the california sun,
Bobby shared the secrets of my soul,
Standin’ right beside me through everythin’ I done,
And every night she kept me from the cold.
The somewhere near salinas, lord, I let her slip away,
She was lookin’ for the love I hope she’ll find,
Well I’d trade all my tomorrows for a single yesterday,
Holdin’ bobby’s body close to mine.

Freedom’s just another word for nothin’ left to lose,
And nothin’ left was all she left to me,
Feelin’ good was easy, lord, when bobby sang the blues,
And buddy, that was good enough for me.
Good enough for me and bobby mcgee.
