Not that this has anything to do with anything, but fwiw here's the top 15 episodes ranked by You Tube views (out of ~45 interviews) as of Oct. 11 2:30 pm EST. I've included the # of days ago that each episode was first posted on YT.

1. Jan Frodeno 44K (2 days ago)

Interesting. Kinda follows what you would expect based on athlete popularity (at least around here)

Would be interesting to compare this list to the top 15 (or however many he has done) Talbot Cox Kona series videos.

I watched 12 of those 15, probably 3 or so I wouldn't watch again. Allistar's count will probably go up in the next couple days I would imagine, especially if he nails a good one tomorrow!

Great question. I have no idea what is the standard for good exposure. In terms of growth, only Bob would know how these numbers compare to views "during the week" from 2018, however I took a look at the views from the 2018 BWB from Kona on the Babbitville channel and copied them below next to this weeks numbers (after the slash). The total views of the top 15 episodes for 2019 is 289.6 which is ~ 94% of the the total views of the top 15 episodes for 2018 (308.4)*. Keeping in mind the 2018 top 15 episode views are the accumulated total over the last 12 months compared to only 1-4 days worth for the top 15 episode views for 2019 it would certainly appear there has been growth in interest but not sure what the consumption rate of these vids during Kona week is versus the remaining 51 weeks.
Note: As Alistair Brownlee & Laura Philpp were not in Kona in 2018, I've substituted the next highest viewed episodes from last year; Tim Don 25K & Javier Gomez 20K. Also Dave Scott & Mark Allen were interviewed separately in 2018 so I took the average # of views from their two interviews (8.5K).

2019 views / 2018 views

1. Jan Frodeno 44K (2 days ago) / 51K
2. Lionel Sanders 40K (3 days ago) / 40K
3. Sebastian Kienle 32K (3 days ago) / 27K
4. Lucy Charles 26K (3 days ago) / 23K
5. Cam Wurf 25K (1 day ago) / 12K
6. Alistair Brownlee 20K (19 hours ago) / 25K Tim Don
7. Daniela Ryf 17K (1 day ago) / 20K
8. Patrick Lange 16K (2 days ago) / 22K
8. Mirinda Carfrae 10K (2 days ago) / 15K
9. Sarah True 10K (3 days ago) / 8.5K
10.Dave Scott & Mark Allen 9.4K (2 days ago) / 8.5K (*avg of 2 separate interviews)
11. Josh Amberger 9.1K ( 3 days ago) / 7.8K
12. Timothy O'Donnell 8.7K (2 days ago) 10K
13. Andrew Starykowicz 7.9K (2 days ago) / 11K
14. David McNamee 7.7K (1 day ago) / 7.4K
15. Laura Philipp 6.8K (1 day ago) / 20K Javier Gomez

Total views 2019 = ‭289.6K‬ (during Kona week)
Total views 2018 = 308.4K (over the past 12 months)

Other notables from 2018 BWB Kona interviews (*which technically should be in the 2018 top 15):

Faris Al Sultan 16K views
Craig Alexander 10K views
Talbot Cox 9.6K views

Just passing time until tomorrow morning! :)

Brownlee's vid has been up less than 24hours, some of them have been up for a few days, some have them only got put up tonight.

Probably worth re visiting this in about a week.

Agree. Will be interesting to see if Brownlee's views surpass Sanders & Frodeno. The race results will likely have some impact on that as monty pointed out.

How much money does that many views pay on you tube? Not trying to be nosey just curious.

It depends on the ads you get and the algorithm that places them. A fear years ago it was estimated at a $2-5/1,000. Some channels get higher quality ads and you get more cash. So for the folks with 1M views/video it ain't bad. Or that kid who has a channel about toys is making bank because he has partnerships with WalMart and Amazon.

there are calculators that estimate

i'm assuming some of talbot's estimates will be off/biased because of the amount of content he has created in the past two weeks and resulting views, but i'm not a youtube expert.

Another metric that I'm not sure you can measure, is whether someone actually watched the whole video or not? I can say for at least a 1/2 dozen of those listed, I would have been a hit, but fast forwarded through, or just turned it off after a few minutes. I checked out a lot, but only actually watched a few from start to finish. Definitely watched more this year than last, hope Bob freshens up some of the questions on the repeat ones next time, I would imagine a lot of repeat viewers going forward..
