Recently looked and it appears that Marathon Investigation is no longer:

Once, I was fast. But I got over it.

Hopefully there is a different explanation. This is a great public service.

From his Facebook page, Derek says “It will be back up shortly. Issue related to a change in site hosts.”

I bet he gets a lot of cease and desist letters but what lawyer really wants to take a case to court against a fact based presentation that would only prove their client is a cheat?

That is a good point as I'm certain it has happened numerous times. I asked a friend in the running community and she shared about one instance in particular that caused a person to suffer some more serious consequences and this hick-up was likely the result. As another poster here and Derek let us know, it was a simpler issue and thankfully my friend just heard "runner rumours" as she called them.

This is all kind of a mixed bag really. I've personally donated monetarily and the site is a community service. On the other hand I imagine many on that site have experienced difficulties mentally, emotionally, socially, professionally and ultimately financially. At the end of the day the repercussions are due to their own actions and so I am satisfied with this on a public level so long as it remains so well documented and based in fact. On the other hand I am glad it isn't my own project. Its a good thing I am not a solicitor or investigator.

I think we cannot say finmans name here?( I don’t know it in any event ). And maybe more recently Dan went to court over a CandD?

After the suicide that came out of a marathon investigation I kind of lost my appetite for the site. Not that I put any of that ( at all ) on Derek, it’s just I was confronted with my savage pleasure of seeing peoples undoing and I didn’t like it.

People like to see justice done and there is nothing wrong with that. I don't know exactly what you mean by your savage pleasure of seeing people's undoing and maybe it is more than just the satisfaction of some level of justice.

Sadly, people like the gentleman who suicided probably have underlying mental health issues driving them to do what they do. I don't know that it is always necessary to out people like that, although some might argue it has a purpose of general deterrence. In many cases these people are putting themselves out there which leads to their being detected in the first place so it could be argued they aren't really being outed.

He's gotten shut down a number of times by legal actions and threats, but they don't hold up very long. He's gotten shut down many more times by bad web-hosting service.

I think this service is great. (I only discovered it recently.) I'd imagine it has kept a lot of people who have thought of cheating from doing so.

When you say he's been shut down before, was that by a court-ordered legal injunction, or did he voluntarily pull his site down for a short period of time until he collected more evidence?

I know he's gotten shut down by DMCA takedowns. Not sure if others were actual legal injunctions.

Gotcha - sort of a backdoor legal approach when you can't question the validity of the presentation. :)

I am screwed then. Does having multiple double letters cancel out the guilt? like four sets?

Might as well turn yourself in now. We know you will do it in the future Minority Report style.

That is not justice. That is vigilantism, a modern day pillory. Use the judicial system if you want justice.
